I've been to one, it's pretty nice.
Just a small quiet place you can sit down and read manga, they usually have thousands of volumes. They offer you coffee to drink, they sell cigarettes, the maid at the manga cafe will probably even light your cigarette for you and let you smoke it in the booths or lounge area while you read. Also some of them have computers where you'll see people playing games all day (again, while smoking).
Seriously, Japanese people smoke a lot. When I went into one of the arcades to play Street Fighter, they even had ashtrays built into the cabinets. Vending machines selling smokes were all over.

usb cables are a scam nowadays. The ones at walmart, I cant remember the prices/size but it pissed me off if that says anything. I think it was something like $7 (plus tax) for a 6 inch cable.

The thing that pisses me off the most with these usb cables is they get shittier each remake. usb A was goat. they worked up to usb micro which is bottom of the barrel engineering. I'll concede that there is no real career in it for most people that come here, although at some point everyone who isn't american realises that they are never going to be a millionaire and just gets on with life. I know many happy people who have done those jobs for 20 years. not white americans as I said - they are all depressed that muh american dream isn't coming true for them.
if you are good at it, learn the language and have some social skills you can progress though. I was an ALT when I got here 5 years ago and built up enough excellent references to get the job at a private high school I have now. 6m yen a year, permanent member of staff.
lots of schools are merging/closing due to reduced numbers of kids so I suppose teaching in general - both for japs and foreigners - is a dying profession.
