"islamic" is anything that has to do with Islam and muslims.
"islamistic" is used for aggressively advancing Islam and fundamentalist islamic beliefs.
the second is a rather recent buzzword that is widely used in politics and media. the intent is to call them "islamistic terrorist", because use of "islamic terrorists" would upset the muslim populations everywhere and lead to this huge theological debate about who is a proper muslim and who isn't. it's basically a made-up word to talk about violent and extremist muslims with relative impunity. the good guys are "islamic", the bad guys are "islamistic". nothing more to it.
