Tanks generally go into close combat with infantry support to make sure no one stands on top, or stays far away and act as artillary. Once someone stands on top of the tank it's difficult to do something about. Either expose yourself to engage the threat personally or turtle up inside the armor. Once you start turtling it becomes a matter of attrition, the person standing on the tank can do things like: open engine compartment, jam things in the treads, yank on hoses, tubes, and wires, jam and paint over viewing ports, drop explosives into nooks and crannies, light something on fire,
