Maintain jet engines from turbo props to propellers. F-22's to C130's. You either get lucky and go into a comfy engine back shop, or unlucky and have to work with crew chiefs on a flight line.

1) They happen to jump out of a plane that month

Fuck yeah it is, especially if you had good grades in high school and test well on your ASFAB. If no degree, go in man, it will set your straight, give you tons of valuable skills, and teach you how to be a good person. It's not just skills for work, but skills for how to live your life. Times that by two if you have a degree, if no degree, no worries, this is better than college and you're paid to do it.
>>

Don't need SAT, if u go in enlisted you have lots of opportunities don't let the recruiter fuck you over and say you have to pick from these jobs, you can pick any job u want wait wait for an opening. You can be a X ray tech, finical guy, mechanic, avionics tech, or a flyer, 1a jobs are flier jobs. you can even be a flight attendant no joke, but you need top secrete clearance for that job so hope you have good credit in ur family

Marines aren't Spartans, sure, but Spartans are an extreme example in a field of extreme examples. USMC infantry are pretty scary dudes. Very disciplined and very perceptive. A unique blend of paranoia, skill at arms, and a lack of self-preservation instinct.

It's not surprising they're always in the news for fighting with random terrorists or murder suspects. They also are in the habit of holding bare-knuckle boxing matches in their spare time, which is apparently great fun if you are a marine enlistedman and no fun at all if you are the one doing paperwork for the idiots.

>>81250923
Spoken like a nu-male. The military is a con job where enterprising young men are given totally unenviable and usually unmarketable jobs in exchange for so-so pay and a sense of patriotic duty. Most guys would do great outside the military, since the military gets to be picky these days.
>>
>>81251827
That's just for admission. Afterwards you'll do a bunch of paperwork signing your life away and then you'll go to MEPS to test and do some entry level medical checkups on you. Bear in mind you can still walk at anytime. Once done you'll sit in your recruiters for awhile on DEP until you get a job you qualify. Finally you're ass will get shipped to Lackland for Powderpuff military training.

I'm currently in the Air Force as a 3E551. Basically I'm a surveyor and draftsman for the "civil engineering" section. I joined at 17, am 21 now and I have to say it's pretty good. Money's great so long as you're not mentally retarded. I get completely free school (and a housing allowance) after I get out in a couple of years.

I don't know if I recommend going for a full career. The militiary, contrary to popular belief, really allows a person to be a lazy loser. Sure, I could retire at 37, but I'd like to feel fulfilled

Why would you ask other people about YOUR life journey ?
Being an army man has many advantages and many downsides, but the it's mainly up to you if you think that being another cog in the system is worth your life.
It's the type of job that you can easily say that if it won't be you doing what ever it is that you're assigned to do, there will be someone else.

If something is respectable , varies from one person to another. it's your life. you should look deep down into yourself and think if going in the direction will make you proud of the person you're going to become.

No, you can have LASIK. You just need a year between the time you had the operation and when you apply. Shit, you can have up to 20/200 vision as long as its correctable to 20/20 via glasses or LASIK/PRK.

Could you join the air force with a stem bachelors 2.7 gpa as an officer or would they rather take a fake degree with 3.5+ gpa?
>>
>>81258716
>To join the Air Force as an officer or apply to Officer Training School as an enlisted Airman, one must have a baccalaureate degree or be a senior at a college or university that is accredited by one of the six regional accreditation commissions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. You must have earned a GPA of 3.0 or better to apply.

https://www.airforce.com/frequently-asked-questions
>>
>>81258716

They take both, they divide degrees into two categories called technical and non-technical. Technical is basically STEM degrees and non-tech is everything else. The GPA requirement for them is different. A 3.2 is considered competitive for a technical degree and a 3.5 for a non-tech. Honestly you're only going to apply a technical degree if you get into the science or engineering career fields. Otherwise your degree is nothing more than a checked box on a list of basic requirements to join and you'll receive all the actual knowledge you need for your job during training.

Getting a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and IT at a decent 4 year college

Thinking of joining the Chair force ?

Would my degrees help me out or what ?
>>
>>81259150
>>81259828
>>81260838
My degree is math which is a bit esoteric but I have always had near perfect autisimo level performance on standardized tests like asvab. I've been considering something like Space or Future Technologies in Air Force rather than a boring civilian career like actuary.
>>
>>81261024

They definitely help but it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want to go officer or enlisted? Do you want to work in an IT/criminal justice related job or just do something badass?

Totally worth it best branch in terms of benefits. Unfortunately I got a position in Security Forces so that kind of sucks.
>>
>>81261759

See I am a retard so I don't know what officer/enlisted is and what they do

I was original thinking working for the feds with those but military service would obviously help a lot.

I am also a Polish immigrant so it would be good giving back to this country.

I am young 22 when I graduate I will be 23 so it would be cool to do something badass while I am still young and can do something like that then transition to a fed job later on if possible.

The insurance and military recognition albeit chairforce would definitely be a plus too

I have a few friends that went into the space field. Not sure exactly what they do besides monitoring and occasionally launching satellites. You do run the risk of being placed into a missilier tour though. Basically sitting in a hole for 3 years under some frozen wasteland watching an ICBM. Space and missiles used to be a joint career until recently, but nothing is stopping them from pulling space people to staff undermanned units temporarily.
>>
>>81243602
Thinking of joining too. Went to a recruiter, and took the test test to see how well I do and got a 57% without studying. I also hear BMT is a lot more lenient, but I'm all for that.

>>
Respectable for normalfags if you want to be a mechanic or a pilot, every other branch will call you a chair force fatty
>>
>>81263176

Well the simple difference is that enlisted are meant to be technical experts in their field while officers are managers that supervise and provide direction to the enlisted. Some jobs are available only to enlisted (like fire fighter) and others are available only to officers (like pilot). Your best bet is to talk to an Air Force recruiter about what jobs are available to you and get more details on what interests you most.

If you want to work for the Feds, anything with a top secret security clearance will almost guarantee you a job later. Try to work in something technical like intelligence or anything with computers/cyberspace. Absolutely do not do security forces, no matter what any recruiter tells you.

Depends on your job.

>and get a degree while in it
You will get a degree from the CCAF eventually. Another looks good and a bullshit one isn't hard with online classes, which helps if you're planning to do 20

>can I just do the the full career and survive off the early retirement?
Staying in 20 years isn't trivial. You have to maintain fitness and actually know your job, or suck an awful lot of dicks to stay under the radar. If you're skating just to get retirement bennies you will hate your life for a long time. Also, don't get married unless you're an officer.
>>
>>81265409
>You will get a degree from the CCAF eventually.

if they throw his ass on the line working 12 hours a day thats a long eventually.
>>
>>81265409
To clarify, this is if you go enlisted. You probably don't want to be an officer unless you're a hot shit pilot, which I doubt you'll do.
>>
>>81264348

If you want to stay in for a full 20 years to get retirement, you will need a degree. Likely multiple degrees. The military has an "up or out" policy, if you are not constantly advancing in rank and within your field you are forced out. To keep promoting, you have to compete with your peers. This means working your ass off going to multiple training schools, getting a bachelors and likely a masters degree, volunteering constantly for shit assignments/projects/deployments otherwise you risk being passed up fro promotion and forced out with 12 years in and no retirement to show for it. This is for both officer and enlisted in any field, no one is immune from it. The cold war days of fat defense budgets are long past.
The military has been cutting personnel by the thousands for years now trying to control costs.
>>
>>81265594

comm = communications

They maintain any comm equipment, basically anything you use to talk/send data somewhere else really fast. Even those LMRs you poor sods drive around the flight line with.

Before I separated I worked on radios that talked to the planes, the satellite terminals that sent radar picture of the planes to the jerkoffs who use it, and other assorted stuff.

Special Forces is army only.

If you're seriously planning to join the military. Do your research, browse every forum, look through board archives, read about jobs, even fucking reddit, then do some more research. Know what you're getting into or you're kick yourself for it later.
>>
>>81243602
Sure.someones gotta peel potatoes and wax floors.
>>
>>81270780

Yeah I know. I will talk to an Air Force recruiter in the near future. I still have a year and half of uni and then I will lay out all options.

During this time I will research about all options, intelligence is something that interests me and being in the military would obviously help that.

I just assumed because while hearing sf I just assumed it was special forces didn't even know security forces was a thing. I am not a retard I promise lol but joining the air force was something I have been thinking about for a year or so but have not been doing any research about, I will start now thought
>>
>>81271737
What specifically do you want to do? I don't know you but if you have a degree I don't see a reason to enlist, and if you do people will ask you wtf you're doing.

check here

You probably don't want to do anything but Operations.

Also, I don't know how it works for commissioned officers but recruiters are notorious for blowing smoke up starry eyed young guys asses.

If you're a young person and doing it for college money, DON'T.

Instead, get a job at USPS (relatively easy if you have a high school diploma + clean record). You can start as PSE (temporary position) Clerk making $15.53 an hour, which works out to be about $23 an hour if you work a night shift and do overtime.

After a year or two of saving you'll have more than enough for school, especially if you were offered a career position within that time, as your hourly pay would jump to any where between $18 to $26.

how did you become pilot masterrace?
>>
>>81274740
I'm Canadian so it's different, but I applied after college, took an aptitude test, then medical/interview, then took a pilot aptitude test. A few months later, basic training, a few months later started my first of 3 training courses. Still in the training system but from what I've seen in my short time in is aircrew positions are the best in the RCAF. Officer positions (pilot or nav) even better but come with larger responsibility.

BTW in the US you can be a pilot in any branch so if that's what you're going for don't limit your self to the USAF.
