The Democratic party has been center right economically for quite a long time. Paul Krugman is a hell of a lot closer to Milton Freedman than to any true socialist.
3. The activist wing of left-wing politics has been corrupted by neoliberal money, especially the cultural left. Remember that people like Soros are not socialists. Soros is a capitalist. He is a globalist and socially liberal. He fought communism many times. Ask yourself why so many left wing activist groups were against Brexit. Five, ten years ago they were against globalism. Brexit should have appealed to the far-right and the far-left. Soros and others essentially bought off these organizations and got them to promote globalism, just usually under a different name (anti-racism usually).
Even movements like Occupy were partially taken down and limited by other, usually cultural, elements of the left. Why do things like the progressive stack? Well, the cultural elements of the left were undermining the economic elements of the left, and it just so happens that people like Soros are the biggest funders of the cultural left. Coincidence. Would you rather have a former wall street analyst speak or a drop out who was majoring in African American studies?
