It's not as common as the corporate propaganda makes it out to be. I work overnight in which there have only been four or some people I can count that have gone anywhere in positions above us. The priority is so low on my shift to the point where you have people trying to get on maintenence positions for years.
What do I do? Keep my $15/hr wage and kill myself when I reach my paycap in about 5-6 years or take a drastic pay/hour cuts to work days and be visible to management to talk my way into managerial positions?
Keep in mind i don't have many options as I don't have a GED or the upfront $20k that my local community college charges for tuition.
