Same reason stabbings are so common in England after bans on firearms. The issue is not so much with the way the crime is committed but instead with violent crime being committed at all. The media has been fixating on gun violence specifically because many in the US falsely believe that the problem is with the means instead of the perpetrator. That and it makes for high ratings.
The prevalence of crimes committed with firearms can't be lessened by putting the blame on inanimate objects. People instead need to be satisfied with society and be overall less inclined to kill eachother otherwise the problem will persist despite a change in means.
