Humans are have 97-99% DNA in common with chimps.
Two possible explanations. One is that we evolved from an ancestor very close to chimps. Another is that God just used most of the same material to create most of his creatures, including humans.
If humans are indeed made in his image, does that mean that apes, and especially chimps, are the next highest animals on the hierarchy of earthly creatures, after humans? Since they would come the closest to his image without quite making the cut. They are very close to us from a purely material standpoint. And of course, the material can affect the mental as well. What does the Bible say about apes?
