You don't need a bank to assign value to an object. You don't need a bank to trade the object with someone else for another object or service.
Banks are businesses that promise to keep safe the money that you give to them but in reality they're using that money to invest it in their own interest and make a profit with your dollars. You don't need a bitcoin bank to topple that paradigm, you just need not to put money into a bank account. You don't need a bank with Bitcoin because there's no physical money to protect or rob.
