That's a bit misleading. The other colonial powers were deliberately trying to cuck Italy because they didn't want any more European powers in Africa to compete with. They gave guns and army training to the Ethiopians. The aid from Europe combined with far greater numbers, meant that they were able to overwhelm the small Italian colonial detachment that was sent to conquer them, since they were expecting nothing but disorganized spearchuckers who would crumble as soon as they saw a modern military for the first time. The Italians went and kicked their butt later anyways.

Americans had about 55,000 casualties and Vietnamese had over a million. Vietnamese were given all the latest military equipment, but just guns but an airforce too, by the Soviets. The US left largely because the war had become extremely unpopular among Americans and lost government support. Same for the Soviets in Afghanistan they killed a shit ton of Afghanis armed with American weapons and had to leave due to the international community getting outraged at the atrocities.
