>What happened, /pol/?

People with no better inclinations can now go to college to study art, something that they may or may not have any talent for. The "art" becomes formulaic, yet must be outrageous/different or your profs won't like it, etc.

Whereas in the past, artists were basically autistic savants who could only do art, and only thought about art, and only had art as a passion. And the subject matter of the art was typically better/real world.

Either way though, art is a waste of time.

Art was about reaching photorealism.
Then photography came.
So artists (who had real skills, look at picasso drawings) had to change rules of art, and those new forms of art shocked.
"i have talent, i do new stuff and some things i do are shocking"

Now people are wannabees, they want to be seen as geniuses without understanding what it means.
So now it's more like "let's paint a turd, it's shocking so it means i'm doing new things, thus i must have talent".

Styles change just like music. Modern art is more about the abstraction of what being art actually is, whereas classical art was based on representing real things. They're both art, one just uses color and space in a different way.

Also what the fuck is up with /pol/'s hatred of modern art? It's an interesting art form that in thirty or forty years will be replaced with something else.

Funniest thing is that people say that, but try to put that modern crap in any marketable form for the general public.
In that instant the "this is wonderful art and free expression!" falls apart.
People still want skillfully created stuff that's based on the correct rules of art.
The whole thing is such a huge pile of hypocrisy that it's not even funny.

Everything can arguably be seen as a waste of time. Kind of a absurd statement. Having children, working, and investing is a waste of time. Sending manned missions to the moon is a waste of time. Writing a great symphony is a waste of time. No matter how hard you work and save you, and your children will die. At least REAL art gives mankind a sense of cathartic release from this madness.

Let me tell you how this shit works.

1. A jew artist (Rothko) makes a jew tier modern art painting.
2. A jew art collector (Gertude Stein/Rockefeller) purchases the paintings.
3. A influential jew critic (Clement Greenberg) praises the work of the painter.
4. A jew board director (Lauder,et. al) at jew run art museum (MoMA) wants to buy the artwork because jew critic says it's valuable and significant
5. Jew art curator spends millions of public funds to pay for the jew art

Every Jew involved in this process gets paid.
Every Jew in the process gains prestige.
The Jewish tribe gains prestige.

Rinse, repeat.

Straight up trickle down Jewry.

I am so sick of these threads. Do any of you fuckers even buy art? If you don't support traditional fine artists, then shut the fuck up. I went to art school for painting and tried not to buy into the modern art meme... but guess where the money is? It's in conceptual shit because that's what rich people buy. Most of us can actually make realistic figurative works since we study the masters, but choose not to pursue that route because NO ONE BUYS THAT KIND OF ART. So unless you are supporting living fine artists (which I doubt) or even sharing works of ones you like with friends and family in the hopes they will buy a piece, shut the fuck up.

Like I would love to make traditional oil paintings even with red-pilled themes.. but are any of you going to buy it, or is it smarter to sell to the thousands of jews and art world people who are mostly (at least publicly) blue pilled. It's fine if you hate modern art, but stop complaining if you aren't helping to change anything.

Yes we buy art, as in design of your ikea furniture, the guy who draws your home wallpaper, that luis royo poster.

Yes i do art, in photography, but i'm not retarded enough to try to live from that.

But yes, i can buy art from you, at its value: 15-30€.

Get a true job, then do whatever you want in your spare time.
You cucks don't even understand what art it.
It's a mean to express yourself, it's a passion, it's not a job.
If you live from your art, then you lose your passion, you lose the will to make anything meaningful.

If you do it for the message, if you want to give something to others, it's art.
If you do it to receive money, praise, it's whoring.

>but are any of you going to buy it,

If you were really doing art, the question you'd ask is: "but are any of you going to like it?"

I do make real shit on the side. If it doesn't get into the market, it isn't helping solve the cultural problem. My point was that many of us do make artwork and pursue realism, but art collectors and galleries are much less interested in it. Until the people buying decide that type of work is worth a billion shekels and more important than literal shit on a canvas, nothing will change. It has very little to do with artists selling out, many of us are happy doing what we love and living on little. If it doesn't sell, it may as well not even exist.

>>80970585

>le frenchie with only true opinion of what art is
I wasn't complaining about the amount of money I make. It is my true job and I am passionate about it. Why would I be a wagecuck and a hobbyist? Just because you aren't successful doesn't mean you need to project your self-hugging ideals on everyone else. You're no better than lefties trying to redefine racism and gender. "It's only art if x"
People liking art doesn't change the market and value of art to a society unless they buy it or revere it as an ideal. My problem, and I think the problem of others here is that it has fallen out of style. It only comes back in style when buyers say "hey this is worth something, this is beautiful, I want to hang this on a wall so others can see how beautiful it is"

It's a bit confusing you think you're the authority and Buddha of art when you don't even realize we are talking about fine art, not design.

There's much more thinking to do.
What is art?
What distinguishes art from industrial products?
What does art mean for an artist?

There's also the question of freedom.
What is true freedom?
For me, it's to get away from all constraints.
Some say art is a mean to express your freedom.
But what is it if you're not free.
Were paintings made for USSR propaganda art? Why?

Should art have a value? Or should it have only the mere value of the matarials and time to make it?

Living from art constraints you to do what buyers like, there's nothing from you anymore, it's just showing that you're just another wagecuck, willing to kneel.
What distinguishes your "artist" career from the wagecuck cleaning the toilets? You're just doing whatever the master says to earn money.

Are you proud of what you do by yourself, or are you proud because others tell you it's good?

My art is free from constraints, it's just there to express what pleases me, and i hope it pleases others.

I'm asking again the question what is art?

Art back then was for depicting things that had happened. Today we have photos for that.

So art has tried to get people to think, and show different, weird and thoughprovoking things. You can be against or for that. But that is what has happened.

>It's a mean to express yourself, it's a passion, it's not a job.
You have a bit of a romanticized idea of art.
One of my relatives is a world famous photographer and routinely pulls anywhere from 5-40k per photo and while they're a form of expression, it sure as fuck is also seen as a job.
Same goes for all of the other people in that circle who are pulling similar amount of money or even bigger sums.
They're ruthless businessmen first and foremost and artists second.
That's also one of the reasons why they are successful.

As for that pic of yours, it's boring and looks like someone just turned a regular concert photo into a black and white version of it.
You're showing way too much empty space above the band.
There's also too much empty space on the right hand side, while the bald guy singing at the left has very little elbow room.
It feels cramped and the picture is unbalanced.

I would have gone closer and taken it from a more interesting angle, while also shifting the focus to the lead singers.

I'm talking about the philosophic definition of art.

Sure you can become specialized and earn money. But at which point do you sell yourself and do only what will be sold?

I'm not talking about photography, but about those "art pieces" showing dicks and vaginas.
What's their idea behind it? Do they only have something to express? Or are they just doing

Art photography needs a skill that makes you take the good picture at the good moment, and that's why you're paid, as pictures need to be aesthetic with a constrained subject.
What's the modern artist skill?

So would you say Beethoven, bach, and Mozart wasted their time? Despite the music of Mozart enriching the intellect arguably of people like Einstein. As you've probably heard learning an instrument has an extremely beneficial impact on the brain. The complexity of a Bach fugue for instance on piano lies in the fact that the performer must consider multiple variables at once (a piano player may play up to 4 melodies interweaving into one another simultaneously.)

If this music improves the intellect of children can it really be said to be a 'waste of time' from your perspective. After all Einstein often played Mozart himself on violin. Who is to say that without this musical outlet Einstein would not have discovered relativity?

It is also the soul of European culture. You're dreaming if you honestly believe we would not be deprived if Mozart had never lived. If music were to be removed from our experience western intellect would suffer greatly.

If you think about it what you're saying is actually nihilistic as well. However, art and music is objectively no less a waste of time than any of the subjects I mentioned in my previous post. I challenge you to make a coherent argument against this that isn't centered around "muh feels"

Also you sound like a bloody Marxist with your
>if it doesn't contribute to society it's a waste of time

That's collectivist as fuck and is an anathema to the spirit of the West. You see, what makes the West great is the fact that we generate the individual. This mentality is what separates us from soulless Chinese collectivism. Obviously, the West is very sick since this type of thinking has become so pervasive. No wonder we no longer innovate on the scale we did during the Victorian age.
