Religion isn't the reason. It's a catalyst. It doesn't cause it. It simply give them a reason to act in a certain way. Look at Islam. Look at how many different branches there are. Some are certainly more peaceful than others, and then you get branches such as ISIS.
They're not going to suddenly become peaceful, they use their beliefs to do what they want to avoid fault. To claim they're righteous. There are rarely many people that know what they're doing is actually "bad"or "evil". Everyone thinks they're in the right, because they've convinced themselves they are.
There isn't one version that is more right than the other. When people say, "ISIS isn't Islam", they're retarded. It is. It's one of the many different branches. It isn't all of Islam, but it is a part of it.
But if you were to get rid of that religion entirely, then they'd just find something else to fight over.
Look at South Sudan for instance. They broke away from the religious zealots of North Sudan creating a country for themselves, but since they've been fighting for the good part of 50 years and have next to nothing left except their experience in fighting, as well as an excess of weapons, and the fact that there are many different tribes continuously at each others throat, they've reached a breaking point.
Religion didn't have anything to do with it. This time it was just a simple political shitstorm and grab for power. If you removed the boarders and took away the guns, they'd simply use Knives and Stones. And if you took those away, they'd use their fists.
People are violent, anon. And there are many different factors involved. Some people are inherently broken, and will simply lash out for no reason at all.

Centuries of conflicts and hostilities can never unwinded until one side gains total victory over the other. In the end equality is chaos, but hierarchy is order.
Humanity will never find peace, nor should we ever, as when the time finally comes when all guns point to the Earth and eyes to the stars, gazing upon the end of everything we stood for, will we have realized that we have been truly defeated.
