Soviets lost 83,500 tanks and 37,600 SPG's.
Comparing just tank losses, Germany/Soviet K/D ratio was

Summed up, Germany on average killed 4.4 tanks for every tank destroyed (that's counting only vehicles designated as tanks, not SPG's or assault guns)
Not to mention they were forced into such tactics because they didn't have the never ending supply of manpower that soviets had at their disposal. They simply couldn't afford to take that many casualties.
