A strong and assrtive leader guiding the people and turning them more independent is a weird concept, but I always like to compare the ideal leader to the American Founding Fathers. People with strong values who built a country and a culture from the ground, Washington being a good example. Someone who understands the benefits of Democracy, but also its limitations and downsides, and passes his knowledge to the people.

You yourself said it earlier. Brazilians are self-centered and statist by culture. If we want the country to change this to a point where there is a balance between personal independence and desire to improve your surroundings, we need a severe reformulation of all of our institutions.
When I say that we need a strong leader, I'm not sayin that we need authoritarism. But we do need someone who future generations can look up as a model Brazilian, somenone who understands the values of individual freedom and the importance of the people. Someone who inspires people to change themselves to the better.
Saying it like this looks like I'm waiting for a messiah, but I do believe that the circumstances in which Brazil is in today will bring a deep change to people's minds.
In short, we honestly need more national heroes.
