When the Soviet Union collapsed everyone got access to their archives and documentations and so there is disagreement on how intentional this starvation was. Most historians say this event occurred because of negligence and mismanagement by the USSR, it wasn't an intentional genocide. The reformation towards communal farming was an absolute catastrophe and caused a huge decline in production. Food was confiscated to distribute elsewhere and so there were some starvation events.
my gf's family came from a Jewish town within the Holodomor affected area, but the Nazis pointed to this event as evidence the Jewish Bolsheviks were trying to exterminate Christians or something like that.

The Soviet Union was the most evil and ruthless empire since Rome and was rivaled only by Nazi Germany since. Serfs and peasants or just regular farm folk like my family and relatives are by large God fearing, church going people. Even in the US it's the same.
When Stalin began his campaign of starvation it destroyed many of these people. Not everyone had the strength and faith to endure. They burned bibles, hymn books, everything and anything from their churches because they thought God had forgotten them. My great grandfather who I am named after was a big guy, 6'5", 270lbs, Zachariah, he was the key patriarch in my family. By his faith and will power they survived and lived to tell the story. I was given his prayer diary on my 13th birthday. His first person account is movie material.
Long story short, Soviets starved ppl by taking grain by force. Leaving only a small amount to feed 6-8 mouths at a time. They then would proceed to taunt the Christians. When that didn't work they used them as scapegoats, the diary said "It's not the Jews who you must blame. It's these Christians. They're brining this on you. Make them denounce their God and we'll give you back the grain." So they burned down the church and everything in it, but the starvation continued. People turned to black and occult magic to make it stop, people didn't just eat their kids. The retarded savages did, the rest sacrificed their children for it.
That's the redpill. The Holodomor lead ppl to give blood sacrifice of their children to make it stop. Losing their souls in the process.

Soviet famines are 100% real, and 100% terrible. There were several of them, and the one during Lenin was not a lot less severe than the greatest one.
Basically, climate, incompetence and outright villainy combined to reach the results as they were.
And before some stupid Ukie arrives, go read a book on demographics of Ukraine, starting with the one published by University of Ivan Franko. The areas that were most hit by famine were left bank Ukraine, Kuban, Rostov, Volga, Podkavkazje regions and modern day northern Kazakhstan.
