You are seeing the no-mans land/park on the America side. This is TJ and it is very very difficult to photograph Mexico to not look like a total dump. Behind this is one of the most dangerous slums between TJ and Playas. Ahead is Zona Norte where you can find hookers for $20. Busiest border is straight ahead

This kind of foundation is needed for a huge structure, not common at all. It looked more like a tunnel to me.
Behind about 2 miles is the coast and the beach town of Playas de Tijuana. America uses long I beams set on end about half a foot apart to keep the Mexican's out but the border can't run very far into the ocean. It isn't difficult to swim around. There is a long no-man's land there with constant monitoring and helicopters almost constantly overhead. The fence continues for 50 miles or so and stops out in the desert where there is less threat of crossing. People that cross out in the desert usually use Coyotes who often load the people with drugs during the crossing. Once on the American' side they jump into waiting trucks which drive straight inland across ranch land, cutting fences where needed to avoid immigration checkpoints. Anything else you want to know?

There are actually 2 fences in this area, with censors in between, but this is totally meaningless. The fence at Tijuana has to be more sturdy. The border is the busiest crossing in the world and a place that many Mexicans come to before planning an illegal entry. They don't cross here because they can't. I live near where this picture is taken. It's the boarder between San Diego and Tijuana. The Mexican side is already the middle of the city. On the American side there's only a few neighborhoods right there and there's a large estuary for the Tijuana river. The main part of the city doesn't start for several miles.
