Jazz music is almost akin to an early punk music where they discarded centuries of ideas of how music should be written. Whereas art music was meant to be analyzed like you would a painting, jazz music was largely made for mass distribution and for enjoyment, and a lot of jazz musicians didn't even bother writing their music on paper and was largely improvised based on memory; they didn't treat their music like an artform and treated it as a form of recreation.
