If I want to know how many people are regularly following some Youtuber, I look at the view counts on their videos for some period of time, let's say a month.
Stefan Molyneux has 434,900 subscribers. If I look at all the videos he posted in between mid-June and now, the majority of these videos are in the 60,000-90,000 range, with some of the current events videos spiking past 300,000.
Now, compare that to another prolific Youtuber, Hickok45. All he does is shoot his guns at steel plates and talk about how he likes the gun. It literally only takes him about 45 minutes to write, film and produce each video, whereas Molyneux probably puts at least 10x longer than the run time of a video into the research. Hickok45 has 2 million subscribers, and the vast majority of his videos in the past month are in the 150k-200k views range.
On the other hand, Molyneux has a higher ratio of regular viewers to subscribers: a high proportion of people who follow him actually watch his videos regularly, whereas Hickok45's subscribers are mostly casual viewers. It's still not a very high number, though, and we need to remember that Molyneux probably has a much more international audience than Hickok45, so how many of those 434,900 subscribers are actually Americans is unknown.
I find his delivery irritating and creepy. Something just isn't right with Molymeme.
