It mentions that Chinese are sort of like French in that they believe their language and culture are superior, so they will accept people who do a good job assimilating both; Japanese hold that personality trumps all, so they will accept people with an engaging personality but relatively little assimilation; and Koreans do not date outside their nationality, even if you learn to speak fluent Korean. Reminds me of the time I went to my friends 21st at this club, came with a private seating area and all, including 2 free drink cards.
I'm waiting in line, and this Asian grill comes out of nowhere, and starts talking to me. Happens with literally any nationality/race. If there's a significant number of a particular ethnicity in an area, people who aren't as good with adapting to foreign cultures are gonna be more willing to hang out with their own than others.
I see it a lot with foreign communities here. I'm Indonesian, for example, and I see a ton of my Indonesian friends who aren't very good at Japanese or English retreating back to established Indonesian communities. Same with a lot of the Chinese, the Koreans and anyone, really.
