There is a very big mindset difference between NYC and the rural South. Being a Southerner I would prefer to comment on that. People in the South tend to be a lot more conservative and, in my opinion, more old fashioned types of Americans. We know what works and we like doing it that way. We know our values and, with a severe mistrust of any large distant powers in mind, we enjoy our self reliance and independence. If someone does not like those values they are encouraged to find another place to move to. We are rednecks, which is really just the working class, and are proud of it. We look down upon others that do not share these values, but not with hatred, but with pity. Because they will never understand the happiness and joy that this lifestyle brings.

I'm from NY. I had a friend killed in WTC1. He worked for Marsh and McLennan. He was a pacifist. During the first Gulf War, he already had plans to drive up to Canada if there was a draft.
