The pledge isn't forced, it's official but not forced on students, but you look like an autist if you don't just go along with it.
The only thing stupid about it, and not to show my fedora too much, is the under God bit. It was added to the pledge during the Red Scare when everyone was afraid of godless communists. It's not constitutional according to the first amendment, same with in god we trust on the money. But again, only autist atheists and shit care enough about that to make a big deal from it.
