I am a retired Army officer with over 30 years on active duty. I have used assault weapons, U.S.- and foreign-made. They are made for soldiers and police, not ordinary citizens. They are not hunting weapons and do not belong on our streets or in our towns and cities. They should be regulated in the same way as we regulate fully automatic weapons such as machine guns.
We are the only modern, industrialized nation that allows such a proliferation of battlefield weaponry. This is not an assault on the Second Amendment but a call for sensible regulation.

I can't find any direct quotes or citations from Michael Flynn about anything on assault guns or gun control. He just hasn't talked about it. Until he makes an official statement on his stance it's all hearsay and speculation.

I'm not saying that Flynn is perfect (I don't think he is) but I'm seriously doubting the connection. It's possible that it was General Michael T. Flynn who wrote that open letter to the editors. But it's more probable that it wasn't him when you look at the lack of citations, appropriate titles, name issue, and the fact that if this were true it'd be a headline (you can bet your ass Obama would love to spin the MSM to shill a general's anti-assault gun statements) and would at least be easily sourced. Instead there's nothing except this singular source.

Flynn was born in RI but is registered as a Democrat in NC. It's not impossible that he sent it. But there's no way to verify and considering the above it's rather unlikely. It's speculation on shaky grounds at best. Thus I conclude that this is most likely NOT our General Michael T. Flynn who was gunshilling. We need a proper statement on his position on gun control or additional evidence and citations.
