I have backpacked through there. Belarus wilderness has a primordial quality. Not like the overwhelming scale of western US geography, but dark and old. A very old-world feeling. It was gripping. Like ancient european history is just underfoot. It was a strange high, and one I only ever felt in old-growth forest in Germany. Like my ancestors were calling to me.
