I'm white. My father died when I was 3. My mother could only keep our shit together so well. I know just as well as anyone what the truth of college is. I am choosing not to go to regular college to get some piece of paper that says I'm qualified.
But as an aspiring session bassist, I am going to music school where I am actually learning the skills and abilities, as well as networking to do well in the real world.
My original point about college in my earlier post was not about people who choose not to go, but about people who are too stupid to get in. More about the people themselves who can't attend it, rather than the institution itself.

Nature is not equal. All living things eat or be eaten. Those who are not only willing to put in more work than others, but also continue to refine and improve the efficiency and returns for their work, tend to thrive. Those that don't will, at best, remain as they are, never improving, slowly declining as requirements and expectations increase from those who work harder to set new standards.
However, I do believe that there is one source of inequality that society should actively denounce: the stifling of innovation and opportunities by those who happen to make it first. Shit like patents and copyrights should be drastically neutered to a 10yr fixed term (with 5yrs to release to market) before release public domain with no option for renewal. Derivative patents are limited to 5yrs and patent litigation should only be allowed under the highest levels of scrutiny with the defendant immune from any injunction until preliminary hearings are complete, barring extremely blatant and obvious 1:1 fraudulent representation trademark/copyright violations. Dreamers who do nothing but come up with ideas and sit on patents without marketing any product should have that intellectual property declared null and void after 5 years. The only way one should legally be allowed to stifle competition is to continuously improve and strive to bring innovative ideas to market first.
