Suburban is nice for people with children. The streets get less traffic than a grid, so you have fewer strangers driving through, and kids can ride their bikes and such in relative safety.
The curved roads also break your line of sight so you don't look down the street and see and endless corridor of identical houses.
It's not as good as simply living in a small town, but it's as close as you can get to that while still living relatively close to businesses and such.

planed cities are relatively hard in historically rich countries such as Europe. An example of the divide would be Sydney versus Melbourne or Adelaide. Sydney was the first city, built by convicts and was planned by a retard. Melbourne and Adelaide took a planned approach and is much easier to navigate.
In Italy, England, and so on, so much historical monuments are in the way of rational building.

What makes Australia great is the egalitarian philosophy most of us share, a direct result of this ideology is the idea that all families whether working class or rich deserve a decent life.
Australia is in many ways the direct opposite of societies like Hong Kong, where egalitarianism is pushed to the rear in the mad scramble for money, and where the poor are left for dead while the rich get richer every day.
I call for a permanent ban on new lots lower than 1 acre in size, and a new law forbidding degenerate modern architecture including glass towers.
All this said, the US has some incredible urban areas that surpass Australian ones in terms of my urban planning ideas. Charlotte, NC being one.

This is something that frustrates me. There was a time when Americans built cultural or artistic or fanciful buildings, but now everything is built for cost efficiency, "environmental impact", profitability and crass commercialism.
Our Cultural Edifices are corporate headquarters, amusement parks, hotels, casinos, stadiums and shopping malls. All monuments to our obsession with money, status and hedonism.
Anyone wanting to build the Jefferson Memorial, St. Louis Arch, Golden Gate Bridge or Seattle Space Needle today would be ridiculed out of the construction business and sued for triggering environmentalists.

We missed out a lot while europeans were building apartments with modern glass and steel . because the government would only give cheap mortgages for suburban houses.
Im not even in favor of having a density centric approach but it does piss me off when the government were doing favorites for one type of construction instead of having it equal funding between suburbs and high density apartments.
