Why is internet speed so shitty in America compared to South Korea and Japan?
>>
>>80574169
big
>>
old infrastructure. we had it first. it's harder to replace than it is to build something new. jewgle fiber is getting there though
>>
Their country is smaller also their governments subsidize those companies. Similar reason to why their subways are faster, cleaner and on time. They build on top of existing knowledge. For our internet to get that fast, we'd have to make a similar investment like Eisenhower did for the interstate highways

Exclusivity deals with local municipalities.

Basically Monopolizing a service area.
>>
>>80574169
south korea is smaller than most states. Imagine if the entire US was condensed into one state.
>>
Try living in this shitstain of a country
>>
>>80574169
Considering half of Congress is senile fucks that don't know what the internet is, the internet we get isn't half.bad
>>
>>80574169

ISPs basically have legal monopolies, so the incentive to create faster internet to compete with other companies doesn't exist.

maybe youre just a poorfag, you get what you pay for here

If you live in a major US city you can get internet on par with that in Japan. Consider the fact that half of Japan lives in the Tokyo metro area. Now consider that most of America lives in the middle of fucking nowhere.

Hi

We did subsidize our companies, they just did fuck all with the money.

You don't know "middle of fucking nowhere" until you've visited Alice Springs.
>>
I don't think this meme is true anymore.

>>80574169
((Who)) knows?
>>
>>80574754
Alice Springs isn't in the middle of fucking nowhere you fucking normie. Try the Tanami desert track.

What's it like there? I'm curious because I have ancestry that traces back to the islands.

git gud

Because the internet up until recently in america, was completely unregulated. Telecoms could charge a fortune for shitty networks and never upgrade their networks with all that cash. Telecoms in the US are designed to make senior executives obscenely wealthy.
>>
>>80574169
The US is fucking HUGE and we are very spread out.

Niggers everywhere
>>
>>80574851
It depends where youre at, but most of this place is just rice fields and shit, jeeps everywhere, street food, shitty roads, shitty internet. And a shit ton of islands lol

What fucking Amerifag is going to know about that? Springs is well known world wide as being in the middle of fuck-all nowhere.

and most americans don't realize that our internet is much shittier than it could be so most think they're getting their money's worth

the best most expensive internet service in the US pales in comparison to run of the mill service in South Korea.

A stable 50 mbps connection is more than fine for 90% of people. You don't need Google fiber to shitpost on 4chan and check Facebook.
>>
>>80575609
if you get a gazillion gigabits, that's from you to the city centre. They often cannot backup international peering with these speeds, so international stuff is slow while your connection isn't used.
>>
>>80574288
Lol Google fiber.

Let's put it in perspective, I live in a rural area and it's not even PLANNED for the nearest big cities. New York, Philly, Pittsburgh, Boston, etc.... and it's been 5 years
>>
>>80575783
so, the run-of-the-mill might not be as great as it seems.
>>
Its also mobile internet
Back home in NL, have 4G everywhere. Even in the subway and inside giant buildings. Never loose connection.
The same in the UK

Visit NYC
Drops out sometimes, no connection in the subway. Middle of macys, no connection. Also not in the fucking elevator at my hotel in the middle of fucking Manhattan.
It keeps dropping every hour or so
Tried T-mobile, AT&T and Verizon whatever

typical of /pol, you couldn't be more wrong.

80% of America lives in urban/suburban areas.

www.reuters.com/article/usa-cities-population-idUSL2E8EQ5AJ20120326

>Mar 26, 2012 - In 2010, a total of 80.7 percent of Americans lived in urban areas, up from 79 percent in 2000.
As said before on this thread, monopolies enforced by the government allow most USA high use areas to be fucked over.
Also the rise of the "Clinton Democrats" in the 90s helped the Republicans cement this in place.
>>
Guys could be worse, you could be living in a Shit country like flag related and have the worst service ever.
>>
>>80574487
A least you're not australia.
Tiny abbot and the liberals literally sabotaged the NBN and used the excuse 'people only use the internet to download videos'. It was actually to make rupert Murdoch more money, though

FUCK OFF STUPID GYPPO
>>
FCC
>>
>>80574948
>unregulated

Where does this meme come from? Telecoms are the most regulated thing in the US next to the abortion pill. FCC sells of freq in auctions, huge monopolies sit on them doing nothing so they can keep charging for their monopoly.

They arrest people even running tiny offline networks like the Athens community network because they don't comply with federal Telecom guidelines. Clowns like Sen. Schumer and every other corrupt politician is responsible for the shit state of US internets compared to total unregulated areas in Asia or even Africa

This.
>>
>>80579035
Again the big meme.

The ocean is big yet we can communicate across it. The sole reason for the shit state of Telecom/ISP speeds in N. America was corrupt Telecoms of the 1980s and 90s literally bought their way into a total monopoly and did fuck nothing to improve service because why would they, they have a monopoly.
>>
>>80579225
