I don't think so. At the dawn of Indonesian "democracy" there were two Islamic Fundamentalist groups, which in total garnered about 40% of the vote. I've also read that Islamic fundamentalists took advantage of the chaos of the communist purges, and killed many immigrants and non-Muslims. During the Asian Financial Crisis a lot of rapes and murders were committed against Chinese immigrants since they were a small but very influential business class. Indonesia also has its fair share of terrorism, and Christians in East Nusa Tenggara seem to be targeted in particular. And one constituency is governed by Sharia Law.
Apparently the average IQ of Indonesians is only 87.

He had to crush the independence movement there because to allow the Timorese independence would set a dangerous precedent.
