The fun and laughter, and serious amazement I have had on /pol/ over the last few years has been genuinely equal in pleasure and joy to some joys I have had in life so far.
I don't think we recognize that enough here. We have seen some FUNNY fucking shit here, and had moments of true excitement and surprise. Sure, a lot of it was painful and scary.
Yet at the same time, it's actually kind of silly to just write it off. I consider us all friends, just friends without faces or names. There is something special that happens here. If it wasn't special I never would have let myself enjoy it so much.
I think we ignore that side of things.
What we have here must just be worth more to us that we are willing to make scary sacrifices elsewhere.

Anthony lives next door so we stay in touch and hang frequently, good guy. Aaron is busy all the time or just generally doesnt feel like driving the hour to come see me (we used to be neighbors but my family moved to the city), Avery moved to wisconsin to live with his e-Grill, and Alex is just always busy, and perhaps just never wants to hang out. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not worried about people around me being 'zombies' or whatever you want to call them. That's their life, not mine. Life is a series of choices, and if they're making suboptimal decisions, why stop them? If they don't, it means more competition for you.
I don't feel any connection to this society, and I have no feelings about its health one way or another. I have never seen anything positive to be gained by engaging in society; maybe that was true in the 20th century, but I, and most of us under maybe 22, have grown up without it.
If the current situation improves, maybe I will start caring about society. If it worsens, better; it is sure to collapse, and then we will have the opportunity to create something newer and less flawed. Otherwise, I am sort of like Junger's Anarch - wanting authority, a king to serve, but finding no respectable authority or kings.
There's a sort of confusion in my reasoning that I have to work out, as you can see. But one thing is clear in my mind, like a primal instinct, cutting through everything - get out! Into the woods! Get out while you can! I am compelled to follow it, even if I can't articulate why clearly.

Granted, I live in a post-industrial shithole, but that's modern America now. It's empty factories, and segmented people. Everyone has their little milieu, their little segment, but some of us have the smallest milieu which is only ourselves.There's little to live for anymore and we're just living off nostalgia and boredom.
Ultimately, all of us have a death drive. Wasted youth, whatever you want to call it -- that's the situation most of us are in. It's called precarity and it's the new way. No stability, no peace of mind, just constant instability and unease, and debt.
I'm just going to take up a menial job for a year and hang low at my own place. Take time to work on myself and take it easy.
