They won't go bust again though. Probably. Hopefully. Please no.

>>80387015

Yet. You import most of your food and the value of the British local currency is moving quickly toward hitting parity with the euro.
>>
>>80386998
It would do us no end of good to get rid of our Trident nuclear missiles. It is time we stopped pretending we were a great power.

I should say here that I was a keen supporter of our nuclear deterrent in the days when the communist Soviet Union menaced Western Europe with its enormous army.

That is exactly why I don’t support it now. We won that war, which was a colossal game of bluff. Modern Russia poses no military threat to us, and isn’t even very interested in us. Nor is China, which has plenty to occupy her in Asia.

The real danger to this country comes from our supposed friends in the European Union and the USA, who have successfully subjugated and bullied us without a shot being fired.

The EU makes our laws, plunders our territorial seas and decides our foreign policy. The USA compelled us to surrender to a gang of armed criminals operating from the Belfast back streets and the hedgerows of South Armagh.

We are forbidden by Brussels to control our own borders, opening them to destabilising mass immigration.

Meanwhile, our proper Armed Forces are sacked or scrapped – HMS Ark Royal lies this week, a sheer hulk, in a Turkish scrapyard with her innards on display.

What use is a fleet of four super-expensive submarines, crammed with missiles we could never use anyway and which we almost certainly don’t control, against any of the real threats to this country? Precisely none.

If North Korea or Iran ever do become nuclear powers (which is open to doubt), why should they bother with us, a third-rate country thousands of miles away? It is a delusion of grandeur to imagine that they care. All these futile rockets do is soothe us into a false sense of safety, and spare our national leaders from having to think about what they are really supposed to be defending.

Trident keeps us, government and people, from realising just how urgently we need to reform ourselves if we are even to survive as a country. Dump Trident, and face the truth.

>yet a £10 note is still worth £10
>being this economically illiterate

A £10 is now worth €11.72, where it was worth €13.10 before Brexit. There's a decent chance it'll hit parity, i.e. £10 = €10, within the year.

You import a lot of your food from Europe (us in particular). Your local currency won't be able to buy as much of that as its value has fallen, in other words your food prices (among many, many other things) will go up.

but the cost of french wine, Spanish sausage and Italian olives will go up. The pound is worth less in comparison to the euro so in a few months the cost will go up to compensate. Unless you only buy British products made in Britain your pound wont buy as much as it did a few weeks prior to brexit.

Yes £10 is still £10, but once trade adjusts to chances of currency value £10 will only buy you one litre of wine rather than the 1.3 litres of wine before Brexit.
>>
>>80388385

You have a shitty little local currency that's about to go the way of the Zimbabwean Dollar, I wouldn't be too proud of it lad.

>>80388445

True, and that would be great if you had an economy like Germany's - but what does England make that the rest of the world wants? Its manufacturing sector is dead, thanks to Maggie.

Services from the City I suppose? How will they cope without access to the Single Market, even with a weak pound?

The ironic thing is that if you fellas didn't go full liberal in the 80's and if you joined the euro, you could've had an economy as rock solid as Germoney's. The bigger economies benefited hugely from the artificially weak euro, it was the smaller economies - the PIIGS - that got fucked by a currency too strong for them.

The EU is an experiment that is doomed to fail.
It was all designed to lead us into a one world government.
If you think the EU is corrupt and unaccountable imagine how bad a One World Government will be? Especially when you bring all the Afriacn and Middle Eastern countries into the equation.

The best news i heard in ages was the IMF today saying the Euro is on the verge of collapse. This will bring about the immediate demise of the EU and we can all go back to a trading block instead of some mad superstate which is what it has clandestinely become.

Scotland's leaving no matter what at this stage lad, and I don't blame them.

If you understood international trade, you'd understand that a free trade deal with China and India would absolutely banjax the UK. The UK vetoing EU tariffs on cheap Chinese steel flooding the EU market was what fucked Port Talbot.

That's leaving aside the fact you're decades away from getting trade agreements with a decent number of those countries and half your current trade is with Europe.

>I don't know where you get the idea that they're on the verge of finally getting it right.

Wasn't talking about the EU, I was talking about my country. The jury's out on the EU "getting it right", but too many countries have too much at stake in it for it to collapse entirely. Let's get some fucking things straight here:

>Farage was not part of the Vote Leave campaign. This is a lie spread by the media to trick the idiot Remainers into thinking he is the enemy.
>Farage did not make a promise of £350 mil a week to the NHS. The Vote Leave campaign said that £350 mil a week would be better spent on the NHS, which was nothing to do with Farage (see above point).
>Farage was not in any position of authority as leader of UKIP. He has about as much say on how the country is run as Tim Farron, which is to say fuck all.
>Farage is not running away from anything. Even if he stayed, he is not in a position to lead the country (see point above). He is not part of the Tory party. In fact, once we have finally left the EU, he won't have any job at all, so he's doing a good thing by hanging up his cape.
>The FTSE 100 is not in a bad position. It is actually the highest it has ever been in the last 6 months.
>The value of GBP is not an issue, as prices have not changed for UK citizens within the UK. The only issue might come when trading, but even then it doesn't matter. All it does is divert attention away from trading with other nations and getting back to doing things ourselves, which increases jobs, and makes for a more stable economy.
>We are not fucked with trading. The EU is not stupid enough to refuse agreeable trade terms with us, as they need us to buy from them. They don't want us to look elsewhere, so there will be no issue.
>A number of other rich nations in the EU are also looking to jump ship. When that happens, the UK will be waiting with open arms to set up the same trade deals with them as before, but without the political submission required. Germany will sink as all its allies leave it with nothing but the poor nations who leech from it. Germany will implode under the fall of the EU and the horde of shitskins being welcomed in.
>Look for WW3 in the next couple of decades (see above point)

Although Defeatism has been an item in the Briton's vocabulary for more than sixteen years, we do not remember having met, even once, with its antithesis " Victorism," a word which would express both the determination to win and the confidence that victory will be achieved. Why is this ? At one time, Victorism would have been the easier coin to mint and to utter ; but at present the poltroon temper once known in Russia as " Tchekovism," or the Cult of Failure, dominates our rising generation ; and Defeatism is its inevitable expression.

Over-confidence is a grave evil ; but Defeatism is a graver. To be prepared for hard knocks and for set-backs is common sense ; but to believe in the certainty of failure is a recantation of our Christian faith. Only Victorism is a worthy temper for the Catholic Church.

Victorism must not be confused with easygoing Optimism. Such Optimism is usually nega tive. "Don't worry" and "we shall muddle through" are its catchwords. Victorism, on the contrary, is not only a mood of lively faith but a tense of vigilance and energy. It does not muddle but win through.

It follows that the Defeatist is a soldier marching with a Conquering King for leader and with disaster and failure for carking thoughts. His pusillanimous unbelief cannot rob the King of the final triumph ; but it can dilute the army's will-to-win, chill its ardours, enfeeble its morale, and conduce to one or more of those set-backs which we have already mentioned. So let this devil be cast out. The spirit of Victorism is a mightier spirit : and when Victorism is made welcome at the door Defeatism will fly out through the first cranny it can find.

Polls show they don't even want another referendum. The economic case is even worse for them now and they can't retain UK membership, which means a whole new application with all the shit we're currently exempt from.

> That's leaving aside the fact you're decades away from getting trade agreements with a decent number of those countries and half your current trade is with Europe.

Less than half and falling by the year. Inside the EU we were completely unable to take advantage of more important markets to us, on terms suitable to just us and the other country, because they insist on dictating blanket trade policy all 28 states have to agree to. I'm amazed they get anything done at all, and judging by another setback to the Canadian deal, they don't.

a spirit of Defeatism possessed the disciples of the Lord ; and they can hardly be blamed for surrendering to it. Unlike ourselves, who gaze at the stark height of Calvary across the Easter flowers Of ARIMATHEAN JOSEPH'S garden, the first Christians saw the Crucifixion all by its terrible self. Their dying Master's " It is finished" did not mean to their ears the Consummation of a sacrifice which had to be completed unto the shedding of blood. It meant the shattering of a dream, the mocking of a hope, the End. Nowhere in sophisticated literature do we find words more sad than those of the Emmaus disciples : "We hoped that it was He who should have redeemed Israel."

But let it be carefully noted that He who "did not give His Holy One to see corruption," did not suffer the disciples to remain in the chill shadow of Defeatism long enough to be vitiated by it. Familiar as we are with the words "the third day He rose again from the dead," we can easily forget that less than two whole days intervened between the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. Black despair was allowed to coagulate only just long enough to make a firm background of gloom for "the Brightness of His Rising."

Christians of today have no excuse for even thirty-six hours or thirty-six seconds of Defeatism ; because we know that "CHRIST dieth no more," and ever liveth at the right hand of God. The thought of Agnus Dei as CHRISTUS REX and as CHRISTUS VICTOR is the supreme thought of Easter. To-morrow's Victimce Paschall, most wonderful of the Roman Missal's few remaining sequences, will end with the exultant outburst : Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere ; Tu nobis Victor Rex Miserere "We know that Christ is risen from the dead indeed ! You're also presuming they want out of all the shit that England wanted out of. They're much more pro-EU than you guys were.

>Less than half and falling by the year. Inside the EU we were completely unable to take advantage of more important markets to us, on terms suitable to just us and the other country, because they insist on dictating blanket trade policy all 28 states have to agree to.

If you actually thought for a second, you'd realise that each country deciding to act on their own would undermine the other 27, who would then each try to undercut each other with extra-EU trade deals. That undermines the whole Single Market.

The alternative to the EU countries getting together and making a single set of rules for each other is each of the 28 of them each having 28 trade different trade deals with all of the would be EU, and having to make sure they're all compatible with one another so there's not a shit tonne of paperwork for goods and services travelling between more than two countries. It would be a bureaucratic nightmare.

Fair point, they are, but your certainty about this is pretty unfounded. You should know by now that the freedom retards are a loud minority. The polling doesn't support a new independence referendum, there's not even any real pressure on Westminster to let them have one outside of SNP asshurt.

Project fear would have renewed strength with the oil price collapse, and Spain is as adamant as ever about vetoing them.

Yes, I've also been saying that Brexit is about short-term pain for long-term gain.
Daily reminder that there should be a Commonwealth Free Trade Union AND an Anglosphere Free Trade Union. The EU's GDP is about 18 trillion US dollars. The Commonwealth's GDP is about 10 trillion US dollars, which would make it the world's second largest economy. And even the smaller Anglosphere (which consists of the UK, Ireland, the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand) would have a GDP of almost 24 trillion US dollars. BOTH of those unions would have a GDP that is higher than that of the EU, so creating those unions would be a PERFECT "Fuck you!" to the EU.

I like how the results of EU referendum clearly show the poshest part of the country. There is a blatant posh belt from the cotswolds to London via Oxford and then on to Brighton and Cambridge.
Then the area to the east of the capital where most of the whites fled to following mass immigration is the dark blue leavers.

That's Norn Iron. We have Intel chip factories, the EMEA headquarters of Microsoft, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Apple and a rake of others. Sure 25% of Apple's global workforce is here. The pharma stuff we have here are factories, not sure if the admin stuff is here at all.

>Fair point, they are, but your certainty about this is pretty unfounded.

I'm not certain, but all talk about the future is inherently about probabilities.

>The polling doesn't support a new independence referendum

Doesn't the most recent poll have a majority supporting independence?

Really what'll depend on is how the EU exit goes. If you simply move into the EEA then not much will change - i.e. access to the Single Market will still be there, EU law will still apply etc. If you move to WTO rules and fuck your economy over, then Scotland will most likely leave.

>Spain is as adamant as ever about vetoing them.

No it's not. They've said on several occasions they wouldn't veto a Scottish application if they legally secede from the UK.

What they want to prevent is Catalunya or the Basque country unilaterally seceding without consequences. Scotland consensually seceding from the UK is different.

>We managed this fine with EFTA, a much more sensible arrangement than merging into a superstate.

No you didn't. You only set that up because De Gaulle vetoed your application to the EEC. Then your economy collapsed, the IMF came in and bailed you out and then you begged the French to drop their veto and let you into the EEC, which they stupidly did. You've been whining about fictitious notions of "superstate" ever since.

> No you didn't. You only set that up because De Gaulle vetoed your application to the EEC. [...]

What the fuck do they teach you over there?

Firstly, EFTA only failed BECAUSE we joined the EEC. I'm not saying we were doing economically well at the time, but as far as EFTA goes it was a success, it just wasn't as successful as the EEC and the EEC offered better prospects.

Secondly, De Gaulle opposed our membership because he knew we'd oppose political integration and hinder it from the inside, and that's exactly what we did. We were only interested in the free trade, the rest of Europe was interested in the superstate dream. If you don't believe in the federal ambitions of the EU project, you can't really be helped. They're pretty open about it. Even old De Gaulle saw the eventual EU as a counterweight to the US.
