Radical in any meaningful sense? No, not at all.

I don't think we can make a fair comparison.

Maybe the 90's only seemed radical because you were collecting Pogs or Pokemon, and had no real responsibilities.

If you were an adult in the 90's and actually worked part time in a coffee shop or a record store, like all the movies seemed to idealize, then you would think that they were shit.

The cusp between the 80s and 90s were the last dying breaths of the pre-globalism era. It was glorious desu.

Sure we have technological marvels now. But back then you left the house and you were disconnected. The world had so much more charm.

Pre internet childhood, god was it great. My brothers and I would go out trapping squirrels innawoods.

The streets weren't over-flowing with lard.

My family would go places by bike. Instead of driving everywhere when it was a nice day.

God the world is shit now. Fucking lard-ass piece of shit globalist civilization. I can't wait until it collapses in on itself.

The early 90s were truly horrifying.

If you want to get an idea for what those days were like, watch all 3 early Robocop films and "The Class of 1999". Gangs in the streets, nobody had a job, and Japanese megacorperations ruled the world.

Starting with 1995 things began to get better, but the 90s never truly became excellent until 1997.

Technically started in the 80's, lot's of tv shows/movies from that time used the line "omg it's almost the 90's".

jews have been conditioning us with this current year nonsense for over 30 years, I'm surprised people are just beginning to call out this bullshit for what it is.

You have to understand that people were talking up The Year 2000 meme for at least 100 years. Then it happened and everything was shit so people got frustrated:

>"It's the Year 20XX you lazy niggers! Where's my flying car???"

It got really bad with 2015 and Back to the Future II nostalgia. Basically a bunch of crusty Gen Xers are butthurt that they#re not living in the future already. They expect everything to be done for them.

Coffee shops everywhere during the day, "ironic" lounge acts during the night.

Those who were born in the 90s as kids are going to have a different perspective from those who were born in the 80s and spent their teenage years in the 90s.

And both of those will see things markedly different from those who were adults in the 90s.

The 2000's were the golden years. All the shit that 90'sfags are nostalgic over was still relevant or even still airing. The internet was slower, but it was still a thing. There were no ads on youtube. SJW bullshit had yet to come to a head. 12-year-old girls were wearing edgy-ass black shit and singing about murder and gore. Your grandma still thought Harry Potter was the devil, and J.K. Rowling wasn't openly an SJW yet. Early 4chan, Newgrounds, etc.. ATLA airing and the forum discussions about it. Fewer normies into internet. PS2 era. Halo. Gamecube era. Social media wasn't a thing yet.

And again, all the good shit from the late 90's was still there for the most part.

9/11 was bad and made us all cynical, yeah, but that was what was awesome about it. You got the afterglow of the 90's with a new veneer of edgy cynicism as the world headed into a much darker era. There's a reason why Harry Potter began in the 90's and the early 2000's got A Series Of Unfortunate Events, and it's the same reason why you had the emo thing going.

Kids raised in the early 2000's got all the media that the 90's kids did, plus some extra. We were spoiled rotten and cynical, we got to see our parents scared as fuck and we knew things weren't okay in the world, and it was unanimously, openly okay to hate the president and your government.

Plus, we didn't have social media yet. Again, that's a huge factor. And when we did, it was Myspace era.
>>
>>80379651
SJW were already just as rampant in the 90's as they are today, especially on liberal college campuses, it's just that nobody listened to them until the internet gave them a soapbox to shout their stupidity to the rest of the world, ask anyone who went to college during the 90's and they'll tell you that literally every girl wouldn't shut up about how she's a feminist

90s I'd say were probably the last era of individual creativity. You could read a book, build something with Lego or create something with K-nex all for you own enjoyment without having to post it on the internet.

Social media has everything to do with it. Before social media nobody expected praise for every single action. Now every special snowflake needs to receive constant approval and can't handle any criticism.

Pic related, I lent a few of these books to my cousin and they literally posted cell phone photos with the objects circled over on Facebook to brag they could find them all.

90s we awesome. We were the worlds sole superpower. The dollar was powerful and the economy was booming. Everyone had jobs. I remember be able to quit a job and walk into and new job the same day without stress because so many retail jobs for shit kids cause boomers are buying everything and anything.

I remember flying on the plane and not having to be molested by TSA. Just walk in, check in, walk on. No crazy security line. no walking barefoot on those dirty floors. No Cancer Cannon machines blasting you with back scatter radiation.

I remember in the 90s we could still have fist fights at school and if no one went to the teachers it generally went unnoticed. None of this everyone gets arrested shit. We had to learn to fight or get rekt in my day. I hate the boomers so much for blowing it.

The 90s kicked ass.

You literally grew up with the computer revolution.

It was like this entire brand new universe was unfolding and you were blossoming along with it.
Novel stuff was coming out every year, and the past 10 years have felt like rehashes in comparison. If you can believe it, there were Virtual Reality cafes and a VR craze back in the 90s.

The whole world was exploding with novelty and growingup with you.

Meh, grunge-metal-sounding music wasn't as popular here, I was too young to remember it but apparently nobody here really cared much when Kurt Cobain died, the only contemporary rock music that I remember hearing on the radio was pop-rock like Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20 and that Bittersweet Symphony song, by contrast all those RnB songs on the top 100 chart got played constantly on the radio and TV here

Now that I think about it I think I heard a lot of 90's rock in the early 2000's than I actually heard during the 90's

I grew up in the 90's, it wasn't great. It was the twilight period before rap and other bullshit black culture started being rammed down our throats.

Some random thoughts:
Fashion: art deco was still terrorizing adults. Loud 'tude prints were all over kids pants. It was like the 80's with a heavy dose of Italian flamboyancy and French crass.

Toys:
The commercials pushed the limit on how much bullshit you can put on TV and get away with without a lawsuit. Nearly everything required batteries, and ate them like candy. Batteries were more precious than diamond studded platinum for some odd reason.

Music:
Grunge and alternative put counterpoints to the 80's excessively corporate and refined sound. Like any other period, the bulk of it was dumb noise, then rock/rap happened, and the boy bands showed up. Actually, boy bands were always around, but were never in everybody's face.

TV/Movies:
Everything was feelgood, cheesy, and happy endings: just the way I liked it. Sitcoms had to have actual jokes instead of weak memes and reference humor. Politiking was generally frowned upon if you weren't going to commit to making the point.
The major writing strike, reality TV, and resurgence of primetime game shows all hit at the same time. The strike sent most of the quality writers packing and it was never the same. Survivor and Who wants to be a millionaire are soul crushingly stupid.

Computers:
It was a great period to have rich parents. For gaming, personal computers were leagues ahead of their console counterparts.
The internet was great...provided you stayed in the guarded compounds of AOL. If you think this place is bad, trying dealing with all the dirtbags and assholes of the 90's newsgroup world. Having a plonk file the size of a phone book was a necessity.

School:
There was a ton of work and very little actual education to be had. The focus was on keeping smart kids "busy" rather than preparing them for life.

Those 48 hours video rental places are all over the place around Pennsylvania. There was one right across the street from my former high school. They started up in the 90's. When I went to visit my parents, I found out that they're actually closing this year. It was sad to see as well, although they were selling videos for crazy cheap. Pennsylvania may be the most backwards state in the union, however, we can NEVER fucking let go of the past, which is why we're seen as probably the most historic state.

I'd have to disagree with that one anon, it's true that PC could offer things like higher resolutions but consoles like the N64 and the Neo Geo CD actually had more RAM than most PCs when they were released, not to mention 90's disk based media had horrifically long loading times especially compared to cartridge based media

If you knew how to work the binaries groups, it was the best place for piracy if you weren't rolling with an actual group or could IRC safely.

In the US, Andrew Cuomo or some other retard threatened to sue ISPs if they didn't police these groups they had no control over and their response was just drop access.

>>80387356
Initially consoles had the advantage and were quickly leapfrogged. NeoGeo was dead in the US by mid 90's due to their absurd pricing. It wasn't until the sixth gen that consoles finally matched PC for any amount of time on GRFX, sound, and connectivity. This is mainly because PC gaming became a third rate platform when Microsoft paid all of its PC devs to make stuff for its xboxen.

One of my teachers even went off about how every boy in the class was a potential rapist. We were only 11 years old.

Honestly I think it died down in the late 90s because they had to support Clinton against Monica Lewinsky.
>>
>>80386343
90s kid here - it sucked fucking Backstreet Boys and Kelly Family, plus PC and multi culturalism were already around. And we still had no well established culture of private schools in Germany, so we were forced into public schooling - which was horrible. I'd argue batteries were the oil of the 90s kid. The only good things about the 90s were the gameboy and SNES.
>>
>>80386343
>For gaming, personal computers were leagues ahead of their console counterparts.
Uhh, no. Not in the early 90s anyway. Only when 3D accelerator cards came out in the late 90s did that really change.
>>
>>80387820
>PC gaming became a third rate platform when Microsoft paid all of its PC devs to make stuff for its xboxen.

It didn't help that Microsoft also spent most of their budget buying third-party licenses for X-Box instead of PC, thus ensuring that X-Box got all the blockbuster franchises while PC only got over 9000 shitty point and click titles
>>
>>80388143
In the US, we got a reprieve in the early 90's since New Kids On the Block and other dumbass boybands kept getting themselves into legal trouble.

Political correctness was taking root, but wasn't until the early 2000's until it finally reached its toxic bloom. At least the baggy pants are gone.

Looking throughout history the levels of degeneracy in a society consistently drop in times of financial crisis and war but then rise back up again in post-crisis prosperity, if 9/11 and the global financial crisis hadn't happened we probably would have had to deal with SJW and other degeneracy over a decade earlier

That is the point where they realized that they could make more money showing people behaving badly and airing pregnant teens than doing anything actually music related.

Social culture for kids in the 90's were pretty dogshit in the US. Most anti-bullying efforts just made it worse. The reality is that a lot of school teachers actually LIKED the bullying and were happy to play along while enforcing the rules against kids that defended themselves.
