Of course we've since created weaponry that is far beyond what they could've imagined, so the conversation is getting heated. But if you get a few people in a crowded place with any kind of weapon you'll do some damage. The average person just goes into shock and can't react to a situation like that. Depends on the state or municipality. The state I live in is a "Shall Issue" state, which means that unless you can't pass the background check, and you have passed a Concealed Carry training course, they can't refuse to issue.
I think you would be surprised at the number of people you pass on the streets who are carrying. I have a .44 Special on my ankle whenever I leave the house, even when I am at work, but nobody knows because that defeats the point of it being concealed.
