I was there a month ago.
It is seriously crazy. I went to dinner with about 10 other people, and the topic of free speech came up. I was the only person saying that free speech was a fundamental right that needed to be protected.
Germany is lost. They think Nationalism and not Authoritarianism was what led to the rise of the Nazis. So they are now pushing for 'european' nationalism to avoid another war, but allowing Authoritarianism to rise which is already creating tension with Russia and China.
Germany is lost. Sweden is lost. We should all hope Hungary drops out of the EU so the house of cards comes crashing down.

Because at this point we ARE the EU. If people said the EU is bad for Germany that would mean we self are bad for us.
The approval of the EU is rather bad in Germany if you take this into consideration (pic related).
However, the EU won't come down because Germany leaves but because everyone else leaves. That's what we should focus on.
See it positively: There is so much political and emotional energy invested into the EU in Germany. When this thing crashes with no survivors there will be a lot of energy be set free in Germany. Will be interesting to see in which forms we can funnel it then. People will feel betrayed and this will create some reaction, probably a self-focused, nationalistic one. Interesting times ahead.

Germany is Germany. it wont be lost until its gone. And yes we were a great nation, unlike you who were never relevant in any way. Here is the reality. America, the EU and China (just barely) are the only relevant entities in the world. if the EU breaks apart the single european countries will be about as relevant as Australia (not at all) apart from Germany which even without the EU would be much more relevant than Australia ever can be. But still in the grandscheme of things meaningless.

But it is a very clever move by him. He can call the EU undemocratic when it tries to force shitskins on him. At the same time it diminishes the power the EU has and will grow the discontent in the EU in western european countries.
