I was actually thinking about Dorner the other day - about how he's a symptom of widespread police dysfunction. You've got an annoyingly small minority of jobbers in police forces across the country that lack the mental discipline and personal ethics to be police officers. They just break down and fear for their lives at the hint of a gun not being in their hands.
On the other hand there's another small minority of ex-military cops that use their anti-terrorist training as a baseline for civillian interactions, making them quick to escalate situations as they try and assert full control. Their training tells them to neutralize the objective and save their squad, not arrest the suspect and serve their community.
Dorner saw this shit from inside. He snapped and lashed out as best he could.
