I'd say two of the four reasons you cited as being negative are still valid even if you are in the military, specifically defacing your body and an indicator of a lower class lifestyle. I understand that traditionally tattoos in the military are a form of camaraderie and represent something so it's not really poor judgement and they certainly don't do it for attention seeking.
