Catapults also allow for launching more aircraft and quicker. Seeing as how you can spot multiple aircraft at once. USA carries can effectively get 4 aircraft in the air in roughly 5 minutes.
Now understand you dont understand taxiing aircraft on a flight deck, but they move very slowly, so only having one launching point is in fact slower.

I get you want to be contrarian but being ignorant is just embarrassing.

The current US fleet of Nimitz-class carriers will be followed into service (and in some cases replaced) by the Gerald R. Ford class. It is expected that the ships will be more automated in an effort to reduce the amount of funding required to maintain and operate the vessels. The main new features are implementation of Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) (which replace the old steam catapults) and unmanned aerial vehicles.[37]

With the deactivation of USS Enterprise in December 2012, the U.S. fleet comprises 10 supercarriers. The House Armed Services Seapower subcommittee on 24 July 2007, recommended seven or maybe eight new carriers (one every four years). However, the debate has deepened over budgeting for the $12–14.5 billion (plus $12 billion for development and research) for the 100,000 ton Gerald R. Ford-class carrier (estimated service 2016) compared to the smaller $2 billion 45,000 ton America-class amphibious assault ships, which are able to deploy squadrons of F-35Bs. The first of this class, USS America, is now in active service with another, USS Tripoli, under construction and 9 more are planned.[38][76

>TIL America's large number of super carriers was nothing more than a ploy to enrich the jewish military complex.

Anyone got any stories from the Russian Navy about working on the Kuznetsov?

I hear they assign people to it as punishment.

(I think it looks pretty cool, truth be told, but internally I can see why it'd be hellish.)

http://englishrussia.com/2012/03/30/ill-fame-of-the-aircraft-cruiser-admiral-kuznetsov/

>Unfortunately, that's not all about the heating. When it's this cold, water freezes everywhere including pipes which may cause a rupture. To prevent this, they just don't supply almost 60% of the cabins with water (neither in winter nor in summer). The situation with latrines is just as bad. The ship has over 50 latrines but half of them are closed.
>Speaking about the wardroom, it is missing too. Instead, there is a cafeteria seating up to 150 persons ( there are 2,000 people in the crew). There are no tablecloths in the cafeteria and it is highly recommendable to wipe your cutlery before using it. As for its food, it’s Ok but it's better not to be late because they steal it sometimes so it may be gone by the time you come.

That and they had the largest and "greatest" navy in the world until the interwar period when America blew them the fuck out for the rest of time so they're salty as fuck. Even when they had said navy, the US always destroyed them on the seas. During the War of 1812, the British were so afraid of US ships they sent out orders to not engage unless they outnumbered the US squadron 3 to 1.

A brown water Navy and ASMs. There's no real point for them to build a blue water navy as it'd be suicide to challenge the US Navy on the open seas. Even during the Cold War, Russia's strategy was to engage from a significant distance with anti-ship missiles or with subs. A million a day in spare parts, salaries and jetfuel.

>The F-35 has most of its parts made by BAE Systems, only it's airframe are made by the Americans.
I want to ask for a sauce, but I know any breakdown would have limitations.

Honestly since it's a primarily aesthetic preference I'd rather we made the Airframe and yanks got to do the bit we can't see.

Also, if I remember right the current government (well, technically Con/Lib coalition) wanted to add catapults at some point, but couldn't because Labour signed the agreement with a "if we want you to change anything at all, you get infinity billion pounds compensation" clause.

>using A FUCKING RAMP is superior to not using one
I dunno, Kuznetsov (amusingly enough) puts me off broad application of the concept, since it restricted the loads of the SU-33.

Wow. The Kuznetsov is famous for how unreliable its engines and plumbing are. It carries a tiny fraction of the amount of planes that US carriers do and the russian planes have to take off with near empty tanks and next to no payload because they can't get enough speed to takeoff.

what the fuck is your comment even about?

Except world doctrine is to nuke whoever uses nukes first. Guess who used the first nuke in your scenario? I'll give you a hint: It wasn't the one who issued a retaliatory nuclear strike. Not that it matters. The second that Anti-fleet ICBM launched, nearly every nuclear power would launch against the offending power anyways.

There are nuclear 155mm artillery shells. Getting rare as we speak as tactical nuclear weapons have been largely replaced with precision guided weapons.
>>
>>80066176
I'm not a chink, but they'll just launch a bunch of them, along with decoys and conventional missiles, and your little shrimp boat will be utterly fucked. It may not sink it, but it doesn't need to. Then you'll have to paddle back for repairs, and that ship is effectively out of the battle. The rest of your cuck fleet can stick around, but what are they going to do without air support, sail threateningly from coast to coast? Oooh, the americans are here. You're not fighting a third-world country without any sort of defence in this scenario, Paco.

We haven't even talked about modern submarines, which I'm sure the Chinese have managed to copy extensively by now. Your anti-submarine measures are so shitty that even the HMS Mohammed can get in for repeated kill shots on your nuclear subs and carriers.

We don't need to put catapults on them because we're buying F-35s that are VTOL, so there's no point in installing them, it would be a waste of space.
The UK gets VTOL F-35s everyone else gets CATOBAR F-35s, our perk for providing the parts.

In the rare event that you are launching a jet other than the F35 you have the ramp.

We got 2 aircraft carriers out of the deal so I'd say it's been a good one, they're way bigger than our old ones, same size as a nimitz only shorter because of muh ramp.

>The F-35 has most of its parts made by BAE Systems, only it's airframe are made by the Americans.

False on the first part and hilarious ignorance for the rest of the statement. The majority of the BAE shit on there is made by BAE Systems Inc. Which is the american branch of BAE. They are american companies that BAE bought but part of the arrangement with the US government is that the companies are firewalled from one another.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAE_Systems_Inc.

>As per its Special Security Arrangement, BAE Systems Inc. operates as a semi-autonomous business unit within BAE Systems controlled at a local level by American management. In May 2006 the CEO of BAE Systems described the "firewalled" status of BAE Systems Inc: " The British members of the corporate leadership, me included, get to see the financial results; but many areas of technology, product and programme are not visible to us.... The SSA effectively allows us to operate in the US as an American company, providing the highest levels of assurance and integrity in some of the most sensitive fields of national security provision."[20]

With that said, the most advanced hardware in the plane, the radar and EO DAS are made by raytheon.

You've got to dismiss this WWII mindset you have of war.

In fact, in this day and age, intelligence units and compsci units are more powerful than any soldier, since they can render communication and weapons useless and even use them to their advantage.

Most nukes would, instead, be allocated to silos or military instalations, not civilians. This is to prevent a second strike. As such, you need to locate most of your weapons to their weapons, and US vs. RU means that most nukes are going nuke for nuke, sometime 2 per nuke due to possibilities of the silo still standing after a strike.

Carriers are good at power projection, especially against defenseless targets, but suck when opposed by a power than can destroy them. That's why they need escorts. It doesn't take much to render one useless. You don't even need to sink it. Simply obliterate its surface and you nullify 100% of its power. 2-3 Kaliber or Tomahawk missiles on its surface would wreck all of the aircraft and render them completely useless. I don't see why people have such hardons for these floating airfields.

BAE literally stands for British Aerospace. It's all run in Britain by Brits.
The only way BAE is connected to America is the fact that your DoD pays BAE to design and build them weapons and other technology/equipment through contracts.

Your link only gives an article about the American branch of BAE that still is controlled by BAE, a British company, meaning BAE still provides the tech and thus so does Britain.

To put it simply - Americans provide the money, Brits provide the technology and brains.

Submarines and missile boats are much more interesting, IMO.
