Carriers are good at power projection, especially against defenseless targets, but suck when opposed by a power than can destroy them. That's why they need escorts. It doesn't take much to render one useless. You don't even need to sink it. Simply obliterate its surface and you nullify 100% of its power. 2-3 Kaliber or Tomahawk missiles on its surface would wreck all of the aircraft and render them completely useless. I don't see why people have such hardons for these floating airfields.
