This was government work which is worse than the private sector, but it's like this just as bad in major companies - I know a guy who works for Commonwealth Bank and women get all sorts of preferential treatment and advancement over males. Once again, "contributing" isn't something you can easily measure. Most office workers are not "contributing", they consume and destroy far more than they ever really contribute. Western economies are mostly wealthy because of relative economic advantage, petroleum (which WILL eventually run out, perhaps before we even have time to find any sort of replacement), because of a global projection of military force which creates the "stability" for things to be shipped\transported around the world without danger, etc.

I used to work in the courts, and there are some lawyers who are able to get by helping people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to be defended.
