Because the population A lives in a colder place, the first animal survives better, is able to fuck more and thus get more offspring. Which in turn will give more animals with thick fur.Eventually population A is filled with the first variant.

Because now they have some different traits it is now when we consider them different species (in reality more things would be taken in mind tho).
