What do you think of internet piracy /pol/??.
>>
I don't care if people do it. I do it. But the fucking mental gymnastics people go through to try and convince themselves that it's somehow not illegal is absolutely ridiculous. It puts SJWs to shame.

Again, download all you want. More power to you. Still illegal.

Tell that to Sweden over there they believe all culture should be shared freely they would spit in your face anon also it may be illegal but should it be is the question i do not think so.

If someone pirates because they don't have the money or just don't want to pay it becomes theft.
When someone pirates because the material is not available or they have a pressing need to accomplish a goal or educate themselves it's fine.

So yeah pirating Destiny is bad.
But pirating the 1970 ed of The Norton Anthology of Poetry is okay.

I pirated the new Ninja Turtles movie last night because no-one would see it with me, and the only theater playing it was in Bridgeport. The picture and sound quality were terrible but the movie was alright. I might buy it on Blu-Ray with the money I saved by not seeing it in theaters.

I also pirated the new X-Men yesterday, because everyone saw it without me and once again, the only theater playing it is in Bridgeport, and what's worse is that it's only matinee showings. I'm not going to Bridgeport alone. I was probably going to buy it anyway but I'm not waiting. I'll probably watch it later today.

It seems to be a recurring theme that I have a hard time coordinating with my friends and family to see movies with me. I rarely ever go to the movies by myself and frankly I vastly prefer watching movies with friends than by myself.

What's annoying is when they want to talk about the latest movie with me and I'm like "yeah I haven't seen it" and they're like "why not?" and I'm like "because you went without me." Am I being too subtle?

Did a few movies, like 4
Pretty good, I think I'm gonna just keep using it for movies

Wanted to do games but I've pretty much bought everything I want from the summer sales, only thing I'm stuck on how to do is download the dlcs, so I'm waiting til I get some shitty computer I can offord to fuck up if something I download has a virus

I know that exact feeling anon i myself do not go to the movies much ether unless its with family or friends & when they see the latest movie without me & start talking to me about it i am like well i haven't seen it yet come on now so pirating them & getting to see them early before anyone else does makes me feel special in a way.

As far as gaming goes I usually try it before I buy shit, I mean there have been games I started playing pirated version and liked it well enough to close game and buy it on steam. I have been burned too many buying shit because of dishonest marketing. Movies are meh if I am free and gf agrees we go see it otherwise we just download it. Got burned taking son to see new ninjas turtle movie on his birthday literally got woken up by elbow to ribs from gf because I started snoring in theater. Still don't know what happened but remember it was boring enough not to bother downloading it.
>>
>>80029871
I made a new years resolution this year to see lots of movies in the theater, because I barely went at all last year. I think the first big one that I missed was Jungle Book and I think the only movie I saw in theaters since then was Warcraft. People keep going to the movies and they don't bother asking me if I want to go because I live a half hour drive away from most people in my circle.

One of these days I'm just going to watch a pirated copy of a movie before its out and then just drop a bunch of spoilers in front of everyone, and then be like "oh, I'm sorry! Next time ask me ahead of time and I'll wait to go see it with you guys!"
>>
I pirate literally everything because i can
>>
>>80023677
Have no issue at all - shitloads of stuff I would've never seen/read/listened to otherwise.

If "artists" were missing out, then yeah I can see where there is an issue but did the movie studio or any of the actors earning their millions miss out because I watched a TC ver. of xmen lat month? Thought not.
As for the indi scene - if a band hasn't figured how to "get their music out there" then they pretty much deserve to get fucked over by the big record companies.

Pirating video games that don't have any demos before buying should be mandatory.
>Trusting video game trailers
That's like trusting a trailer for a movie that's only audio with no visuals. If you can't play it you can't judge.
Releasing a snippet or a timed multiplayer trial isn't that fucking hard and devs not doing it makes it look like they know their product sucks.

Movie theaters are the worst way to watch a movie and only still exist because of the manufactured supply crisis through contracts that delay a physical disc and streaming release. It's not because it's cheaper, like it use to be.

Thing is pirating is easy, free and most of the time better than paid service.
Why pay when you can have something better for free?

People also should know that early pirating was buying pirated stuff from shady guys on the market not a free sharing by net like it is now.

>What do you think of internet piracy /pol/??.
Economics in the XXI century, companies actually want you to torrent their shit.

>Be a CAD development company
>No one knows about your product
>competence sales at 10k for a licence
>Crack your own product
>upload it
>Students use it
>Afterwards they want it for work
>you sale a lot of licences to companies
>???
>Scholomo profit

Talking about software, the program itself is worth nothing, specially talking about high level CAD software, SolidWorks, autoCAD. The person who wants the licence wants productivity, this is why the sector gives you access to call center, direct support if you dont know how to do X on the program and so on

When talking about entertaiment piracity is a key part when talking about popularity(youtube and youtubers are employed here), which is what actually sales
>>
>>80043316
theft deprives the owner of the item

taking photos of a bike, then building one yourself leaves the original able to use
>>
>>80023677

Because you are not stealing income from someone when you pirate something it should be punished with way less. A fine equivalent to the value of the pirated product plus 20% should be enough in my opinion.
>>
>>80043316
So what. I don't care. I explain not justify.
>free and better service
>paid and worse
Why pay then?
I still buy some games but really few.

Its also not theft or robbery.
Illegal copping at worst. And its actually semi legal under polish law. You probably don't remember but there was time when you can record games on tape from polish radio.

Adapt or die. Technology and the market have deemed that digital media is now post-scarcity.
>>
>>80044489
Piracy just gonna go underground. and actually fund crime and take money form publishers.
In UK you can actually buy pirated movies or games burned on cd/dvd. Like in Poland 20-15 years ago.
West is in global decline.

This. The industry itself was the one to push digital, promising cheaper media consumption at higher quality.

Then they just kept the prices equally high, if not higher. This is what happens when you feel the need to gouge your customer for decades.

Also even when they were on hard media they were sued by the government for decades for price fixing.

can a tech savvy anon help me with this shit?

I want to download call of duty world at war. I loved that game, and its WW2 aspect, I'd like to download this to start with, then maybe some other games at a later date. How do I get it for free?

I'm legitimately retarded when it comes too doing this, so if an anon could help me i'd really appreciate it. I'll lurk the thread so that I can reply quickly.

Thanks famalam

Piracy is becoming more and more irrelevant thanks to services like Steam, Spotify, Netflix and Youtube Red.
It's simply not worth the trouble anymore. Steam has devalued games to the point where a lot of people have more games than time to play those games, Spotify, Netflix and the like simply make physical media pretty irrelevant.

However I do think that there's no longer need for record companies and other irrelevant middle men in age where artists can simply sell their works directly.
>>
>>80045751
Its illegal in USA. We don't want you to see prison industrial complex from close perspective.

>>
>>80045751

If your paid service is inferior to piracy then i have no reason to pay for your shit service, thats the free market.

Why should i pay for cable and then be forced to watch shows at preset times and sit through commercials when i can get it whenever i want for free. Why should i pay for HBGO/Netflix and be forced to use your shitty player that is constantly losing content if i can just get whatever i want for free.

Why buy your game if it will force me to go through periodical licensing checks and always stay online when i can just get it free without all that shit.

That being said, regular drm free games i always buy because the service is equal to just pirating it.
>>
>>80046084
thanks m8, didn't realize I wouldn't be able to play online.
>>
>>80046020
What the fuck is youtube red? If anything, it increases the convenience of pirating given you have to subscribe to so many different outlets and content producers for your shows. Why should I have to pay separate subscriptions to amazon, hulu, netflix, whatever, when I can just pirate it for free from one place?

shouldn't be though.
they tried to make it illegal to record music onto a cassette tape years ago.
now technology has advanced and now pirating things is illegal

sharing files should be no more illegal than sharing cooking recipes that you got from a cookbook.
the owner isn't being robbed, he still has the original copy
denying profit is not a crime

pirating should be legal if no profit is being made
and over here it isn't idk about in germ
>>
>>80048026
>than sharing cooking recipes that you got from a cookbook.

No because that has the creator's consent. Pirating doesn't. If I download a film, and sign a contract saying I will not distribute it, then I am breaking that contract. Cooking recipe books do not have that contract when bought
>>
wait, can pirated games be played online? I remember seeing that call of duty was the most pirated game of all time. But what's the point if peopel can't get online
>>
>>80048342

if people can easily download and that's the new form of consumption
Then it still kills revenue.

Pirating can't really be legal when it's a consumer product and the consumers refuse to pay anything.

Every IT company, even large multinational companies have piracy acquired programs, but they will never admit it unless you work there. There's also different kind of piracy, like Microsoft stealing code from some program project and then selling it. Which brings us to cloud service, which whole purpose is to do just that among other things like market research. Even bigger steal is anybody writing apps for Microsoft or Facebook and wishing to get monies, which big companies review and might steal and sell, while you get nothing. This is why migrants come to Europe, why Indians come, they work for free, they work as test subjects for companies, they write test apps, then big companies pick up that and some they use.

As a boss of some company you not going to do research on purchased products, you going to test it on pirated program. And who's going to do the tests? Not even you, this is why there are migrants, they get promised jobs if they do their test. And you as boss only pick up test results.
