Predict events the media says is impossible but you know will happen. For example I told my family last year back when they were reporting 200,000 refugees to Germany that there would end up being 1million+ and they were largely no actual refugees but economic migrants. Initially they all thought I was insane but eventually the media started reporting the truth. Also told them the EU would probably start breaking up over it in 2016 and Brexit happened

He wasn't reaching for his gun. At 6 seconds in he spreads the fingers of his left hand and he moves his right hand in front of his face to show the officer. His right hand is free at this point and he could swing at the officer or reach for his gun but he doesn't. The first officer then grabs his right hand to pin it to the ground in order to restrain him. It's at this moment the first officer says 'Mike, he's got a gun!'. From the second officer's point of view Sterling's hand just moved to his pocket coinciding with this announcement of the gun. He's unaware that Sterling's hand was just placed there by the first officer to be pinned to the ground. He most likely can't see Sterling's hand either, because the front of a car is above it. From the second officer's point of view it's reasonable that he would assume their lives were in danger. I don't place any blame on Sterling however, who was attempting to comply by showing his hands and spreading his fingers.

I've come to the conclusion that almost all of these incidents are justified. From the first break of this again I questioned it, but then the video ends up backing the police up.
You can see it push the officer off. Then as the camera turns away you get a glimpse of it getting up, I assume it went for the gun or attacked the police officer who had to put it down in self defense.
If so the officer probably needs to take some classes to keep calm and not waste ammo. One or two shots would have been enough to neutralize it.

It got a little better when I pretty openly declared support for Trump and laid out how the election was going to go. I suppose the difference is that my parents are not very smart, legitimately do not trust my opinion, and feel no obligation to accept counter-evidence. They still throw a fit every time I cook a meal because they are shocked I know how to cook. The same is true for practically everything I do correctly.
I've predicted nearly verbatim entire episodes of talk shows with Colbert, Maher, and Jon Stewart line-by-line in real time, but that is apparently not enough to qualify as an understanding of politics. I've been breaking international news sometimes as much of a month ahead of time and they often tell me I'm flat out wrong. At this point I've just curtailed my efforts to pointing out which stories they are going to see, which ones they are not going to see, and how long it will take for a story to reach them and through which medium.
I don't think I can teach them anything but my credibility should be OK in case I need to defend myself, and that seems to be working fine.

I rewatched both videos several times and even in slow motion I think they originally tried tazing him, you can hear the tazer crack twice in one of the videos but it didn't affect Alton so they order him to get on the ground but Alton refuses to comply which leads to the officer tackling him. After noticing he had a gun, one of the cops shouts at him "If you fucking move, I swear to to God..." after which Alton yells back, "Are you talking to me?!" before he attempts to reach for his gun.
When I first saw the video, I thought it was just police brutality but after rewatching several times, I do believe that they were in the right. Alton had two opportunities to comply and decided escalate the situation instead each time which is why he's dead now.
