I think the idea in the black community is that any encounter with police, no matter how you act, has a chance to end up being deadly, so they're probably always on edge when cops show up no matter the circumstances. And honestly I've read about enough situations where cops overreacted and killed people who didn't have it coming that I can kind of see where they're coming from.
