Police Background Checks have been known to fuck over the lives of people in Ontario who have never been convicted of anything before, but our government has finally started clamping down on it in recent months. I lived in two places in Illinois before I moved to Florida, including Chicago. I've been arrested for misdemeanors like loitering and the cases would get thrown out. When I had background checks run on me nothing would show up. I also got arrested in Staten Island for public intoxication, and had a job interview two weeks later. They never mentioned anything.
Maybe my experience doesn't allow me to generalize for all areas of America but I can feel safe generalizing that felonies and convictions are the number one red flags in background checks.
