The principle of Representative Democracy is Trust, the trust of elector (people) into his Representative (elite). If the elector may not express the loosing of his trust, then it is not obvious, that the Representative still has the Trust, he may loose it the next day after elections and nothing happens, in current system. The electors (people) are corrupted by false promises and no one forces their fulfillment...
The simple correction will be Transparent Democracy: the electronic-only vote (over https), where the vote will be evidenced and could be withdrawn at any time - whenever the elite Representative looses Trust of his electors.
Just that simple. No manipulations by government possible, because everyone can check his vote status... No irresponsible rulers - whoever looses Trust, looses Might (almost) immediatelly (monthly?).
So that current system is a Rule of usually Evil Elite, this modification will be a Rule of always Good Elite. Unlike the Direct Democracy, which is a rule of Average Mob and media, which sweeps by the mob.
One of first things necessary to do, when People will regain their Democratic power this way would be to clean-up Media - both short-term (force the News to report (almost) whole Truth and balanced expert opinions and not a manipulative digest as now) and the long-term Media (public universities),
and expropriate all the Stocks from all Investors to the State, returning only those belonging to public transparent small-investor pension funds...
There would be no rich people in socialism.
