I think it's basically that Islam doesn't really handle "sin" the same way.
In Christian religions it's:
Sin is committed by a person. Only that person can atone for their sin and their sinning doesn't "infect" others unless they are like corrupting kids or whatever. You need to tell a priest and return the shit you stole or whatever to atone. Pretty agreeable.
With Islams it's:
If you family member commits a sin, you need to rectify it by hunting them down, cutting their throat out with a sword and have them bleed to death in the dirt in front of your village. Basically justified murder for thought crime.
Couple this, with that fact that people practice the Koran more literally, and you'll find a subtle, but key difference upon close examination.
