Why do they not teach statistics in high school?
>>
Seems excessive for high school math. Over here in the land of niggers and retards though most students aren't even required to take trigonometry.
>>
>>79749795
Because it's deeply important to understand every field in social "sciences" and politics.
>>
>>79749795
They do. At least here they do.
Its just that calculus techniques are not introduced.

I went to high school in New York. You could take the normal route with trig, physics, calculus, etc. But they had "applied math" for the retarded kids and niggers, which is literally basic algebra like factoring and quadratic equations.
>>
>>79750243
>>79750440
Not in Florida it isn't. Here niggers and spics don't even have to take Algebra 2, they just take "math for college readiness" for two or three years sometimes. They just sit there and dick around with middle school material.

It always confuses me when burgers talk about trig and calculus and algebra as if it's separate.

In Finnish school we just have Maths. It's compulsory and it covers everything. Then again i couldn't tell you what algebra is or what calculus is, to me maths is just all the same shit.

They do in England, I got taught stats at gcse level. Had to do simple stuff like the standard deviation and percentiles etc. I always liked stats though as you can just do it all with a calc and providing you don't fuck up entering numbers you're guaranteed a right answer.
>>
>>79749795
Because statistically speaking,if statistics were taught to every child then statistics suggest that statistics would make people see that the world has not warmed (outside tolerance levels +/-) since 1998.Statistically speaking of course.(tolerance levels are set statistically too)
Now that we're talking statistics then we can move on to the unemployment statistics(seasonally adjusted statistics no less),then the GDP statistics, etc, etc, etc.
STATISTICS FOR EVERYONE I SAY.
Statistically speaking your awareness of the magnificence of statistics (OP) are about 1 in 500'000 (an impressive statistic and kudos to you OP)

Because statistics is bullshit and irrelevant to a high school education. And I say this after taking 3 of those classes in college over 10 years ago.

If they're going to make a higher math mandatory in high schools, it should be Calculus. Not statistics. Hell, they should do accounting over statistics - maybe there wouldn't be so many idiots that are poor at managing money.

Calculating probability, memorizing T and Z distribution tables, and confidence intervals don't help people understand shit. I'd say three-quarters of the last class I took couldn't describe the difference between discrete and continuous data or even point out the simple difference between using Chebyshev or Empirical methods, and that was a "400 level" university course. Of course 75% of the class was easily weeded out, people try to learn statistics, but it's the understanding of it, which is important. Think about how many dumb asses you knew in high school. Do you see them calculating P-values for two tailed probabilities, drawing the curves, and explaining in detail what their findings are? No. 90% of high school kids are too busy getting laid, drinking, and smoking pot to care about bell curves and all the other mundane shit that's in stats.

>>79754728
They teach math here, but their students don't understand it. I believe calculus is integral to actually understanding mathematics. Since there's only two core concepts taught in calculus (integral and derivative), high school kids can easily grasp these concepts and understandings.

Ya they have that here too but they do it in units. So one month you focus on trig (triangles and shit) then algebra (bedmas) etc. Then as the years go on you can pick which ones you want to focus on more thoroughly. You need at least 3 maths (one for the first 3 years of high school) to graduate and at least a 4TH math to get into university. Many people going into uni will take a 5th math here because the universities only look at your top 12 courses of the last 2 years of hs so some would take an extra math just in case they bombed one of the other math courses.

Then you have a talent for math. You're the exception, not the rule. How many of your fellow burn outs did you see doing exceptionally well at math?

I did an ass-ton of drugs in high school, fucked anything that walked (both men and women), and partied till the sun came up too. But I am the only one out of all of my friends with a university level education. My best friend from high school tends the Wok at Panda Express and he's 32. The "smartest" kid that was in my group (he was in all possible AP classes in HS) works in a smoke shop. My other friend who went to community college, dropped out with 1 semester to go until he got some useless music degree, and now he assembles silicon boards on some assembly line for $10 an hour. I can go on and on about the failures of my friends, but you get the point.

>>79756837

Love the naming to make people feel better about their failures. I always wondered what concepts were actually taught in that remedial class. I wasn't the smartest with math in high school, but I wasn't bad enough to be put into that class chalk full of Mexicans and dumb-dumbs.

I had a shit GPA, I fucked around a lot.
My grades were all over the place.
Math was always A's. Usually above 100% because extra credit.
Some English classes were perfect A's and other I got F's in.
Guitar and other music classes were A's
Most science except for shit earth space was A's
History A's
Everything else F's.
I was also in the "gifted" program and had an AP classes I hated because of all the boring shit.
I hate writing man.
Unless it's math equations or programming.

tl;dr Shit GPA

Also I haven't gotten my diploma and left school once in 9th and the end of my second year of 12th (repeated because behind in credits) because of family problems.
I left this past February on my birthday.
Im getting my diploma in September though because of a slightly new program here in my town that lets us make those credits up to get a full diploma, not a ged.

I loved highschool in terms of learning, friends, and teachers.

But our progressive leaders don't want their constituents to understand statistics. They might realize that averages are not guaranteed to be equal to an actual value, that "chaos theory" is about flaws in iterative mathematical models and not a magic superpower scientists can use to make tornadoes out of a single butterfly's wings, and, worst of all, they might realize that making a model that appears to mirror real world phenomena doesn't prove the mathematics drive said phenomrna.

President Obama literally started his career suing banks for "redlining" over the fact that their rejection of high-risk applicants caused a pattern in their lending similar to what would appear if they had redlined minority neighborhoods, therefore racial redlining must have taken place. He won every one of his suits, leading directly to the creation of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the eventual housing crash.

10th grade math was the worst year for me. There was this substitute teacher who was hired to fill in my teacher for his heart surgery and she was a huge bitch to everyone and made it miserable. Looking for work. I was an apprentice commercial electrician (by invitation) for a month but our project was over.
This was also one month ago.
Now I'm unemployed.
I liked the hard work even though im fairly overweight (250 6'0 though I put it off well)
The money was really fucking good as im moved out with my gf and we don't spend much money anyways.
I'm basically living rent free in a second building on my gfs grandmother's lot. I only pay for my share of food, water and electricity.
I progressed quickly at my job too.
I learn fast and I was driving the excavators, forklifts , guiding teams of actual illegals (I know they were because they're my gfs relatives and such), I was reading blueprints, making blueprints, doing measurements in my head.
The boss loved me and wants me to pursue the trade but I'd rather go into comp sci/eng.

CLT is highly intuitive, but it is important for people to understand the mechanics in order to understand everything later in stats. How are you going to explain regressions to someone that doesn't understand CLT? I've seen what happens to burgers who don't, they end up being able to sort of follow regression analysis, but they can't set up their own and they have no idea how to correct for multicollinearity and the like because they don't really know what's going on.

You could try getting into a private school, but the competition is fierce. You'll need a master's, and you'll need to find a school that has an opening, and you'll possibly need experience to beat out other applicants. Also, from friends I know that taught in private schools, the quality of privates schools varies. Some are good, some are not. Some treat their teachers well, others fuck them hard. I know 6 people who taught at privates schools, and only 1 stayed for more than 5 years (she's still there). Her school hires a new teacher about once every three years from what I've seen.

Anecdotally, teaching is 50% zookeeping, 30% paperwork/admin and only 20% about your subject. That is for me, because I'm in FE (community college for Americans).

For schools, swap the 'paperwork' and 'zookeeping' as the kids are nicer but there's more "Mark this, mark that! Le parents' evening every month!"

The 13 weeks holiday are not worth it when your job duties include the equivalent of teaching snails how to backflip.

What is ironic about computer science degrees is that aside from a few less math classes, it is essentially a bachelor's degree in mathematics yet colleges don't tell any of the college freshmen this, beforehand, so many people come in expecting to just learn about progroamming languages or make video games only to find out that CS is actually more like a math degree and before midterms or after midterms in CS 101, more than half of your class would have dropped the class already or choose a Pass/No Pass grading so their GPA wouldn't take a severe hit.

If you don't like calculus, getting a CS degree would be pretty painful.

I assume by "executive education" he means teaching professionals/managers/businessmen. Most masters programs at good universities offer classes to those people, so everyone present (usually) wants to be there and wants to learn. Occasionally people are forced to go to those classes by their superiors, but usually its voluntary (and even when it isn't, they can usually gain promotion or become more efficient, so they are still somewhat motivated).

As for the "spoiled brats," would you rather be teaching poor kids with parents that don't care?
