The Saudis already destroyed most historical Islamic sites in Mecca and Medina for the same reason IS blow up all historical religious sites.
They believe (as Muhammad did) that all reverence of physical objects or people, is associating them with (the Muslim) God, an act of polytheism in violation of the strict oneness of God/monotheism, and is shirk/idolatry.
This includes shrines and tombs to early Muslims and nominally Islamic sites.
