In the book the reason they invade Klendathu is to kill the Bug queen, who is too far below the surface to kill by bombing the planet from orbit, but then again in the book the Bugs have cities underground, space ships and laser guns too, which made it even harder.

The power armor allows them to withstand anti-tank rounds and HE, it has jump jets and rockets, micro-nuclear warheads, gives the user the strength to tear open tanks and punch through concrete walls, and cross over a mile of terrain in a single jump.
