Jew here: we are over-represented in banking, media, politics and religion. A lot of Jews tend to be raised very liberal and have a bad habit of being myopic and self-centered. Throw in that Marx was one of ours and it really isn't unfair to say that we have positioned ourselves as the fall-guy for a lot of shit.
It doesn't help that most Jews totally misunderstand what it means to be a member of the "chosen". If you believe in that bronze age nonsense, you should at least understand that it's the burden of being god's servants in charity to others and faith in him, not some country club membership that makes you inherently better than others.
Personally, every Jew reading this should work daily to not be perceived as the happy merchant. Unfair as it might be, the burden of proof is on us if we want to dispel a lot of these stereotypes (yup, those stereotypes exist for a reason).
