Daily reminder that if you are not forgiven by the office of Apostolic succession, you're sins aren't forgiven (John 20:23). Also keep in mind that "loosed" is another translation of the same word translated as "forgiven", and then read Matthew 18:18.

There is a lot of noise in Religion. You can spin your mind over bible passages and different history and writings and opinions literally forever.

This is why I have great respect for Eastern meditative religion which I also use to guide my life. Lately the situation in the world just appears really scary and evil. It is feeling like the end times, and it feels like the problem is bigger than what humans can solve alone.

The story and life of Jesus is unique from other Gurus, Teachers, and Prophets throughout history. He was an envoy from God to make a sacred karmic transaction--relieving humanity from the debt of their wicked deeds.

Theology is complex, but the life and words of Jesus are pretty simple. He said that believing that his story is true is enough to shield us from the darkness of the world.

Everything Jesus said was very sensible and wise.

I've been everything from an atheist, to a psychonaut, to a buddhist/hindu. I've studied all religions and more relaxed new age philosophies. But now I am seeing the fruit of the New Age, and it stinks. Jesus was an example that there is honor is suffering and self sacrifice. The new age seeks to create a paradise on this fallen Earth, but Jesus tells us to remain aware of our eternal nature. Much evil in the world comes from trying to squeeze experience and pleasure out of our short time here on Earth.

An absolute belief that there is a God and a belief that if God came to earth he would be exactly like Jesus. Faith enables you to walk on water, doubt makes you sink faster than you can know. Skepticism is a healthy thing to have, but when God presents himself before you and extends his hand you just have to take the leap and grab it

The RCC is right, Peter is the rock (but all Apostles are also rocks, as per Saint Jerome, and Revelation 21:14, but Peter is the rock of rocks). However, there seems to be a confusion as to what that means: it has to do with Peter's role in *founding* the Church, obviously a role that isn't passed on. And it is not an office Peter holds distinction from bishop, in 1 Peter 5 he appeals to other bishops merely as "a fellow bishop", not as any other office.

tl:dr Peter's person is the rock, not Peter's chair.

A baby/child isn't capable of fully understanding the commitment giving their life to Christ. It should be an important part of being a Christian Infants cannot remember that it happened. What good is it doing it then?

1john1:5-10
If you don't follow Christ's teaching but you say you have fellowship with him you walk in darkness
JESUS SAYS IN JOHN 3 YOU NEED TO BE BAPTIZED TO HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. YOU KNOW THE REASON HE CAME TO EARTH TO GIVE ETERNAL LIFE AND IN JOHN 6:40-66 JESUS SAYS EAT OF HIS FLESH AND DRINK HIS BLOOD TO GAIN ETERNAL LIFE.

St Dismas
Are you saying Christ's Teachings are irrelevant? Thit is a good question in Gospel continuity though. I will start with the fact that Jesus Himself says Baptism and Eucharist are essential for Eternal life. This should be enough to show someone what Jesus requires of us.
>1 John 1 5-10, 1 John 1:6-7;
With all that said, let us not forget though that St. Dismas has very little background revealed about him in
>Luke 23:39-43;
Why should we assume he has not been baptized. As for the Eucharist, the Apostles haven't Consumed Him on on their own yet. God wouldn't fault him for that. Also Jesus is God He writes the rules. Also this act on the cross Dismas preforms is vudui from the Old Covenant. It does say in >Matthew 27:48-53;
Old Covenant Saints are in Heaven, and at Christ's death their bodies went to Heaven. He May have Obey the Old Covenant. Again their is not enough information to overwrite what Christ told us to do.

I might add that singing them yourself is even better, which is something you can certainly do since they don't have instruments or polyphony.
>>
>>79691134
>or polyphony
wat

Alright, I'll have to go back and give that another listen. Maybe it was just abstract enough that I didn't notice it wasn't actually polyphonic.

Is there a reason behind that?
>>
>>79691283
Yes, the reason is the original Christians didn't have polyphony in their hymns.

We ARE traditionalist, after all
>>
>>79691587
Even our Western Rite is like that.

This is a Western Rite parish (see the Western style icons, including the carved one). The hymn is Western, but also Orthodox
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI92g8JWwn8
>>
>>79691587
Yeah, but like polyphony didn't even really exist that much until polyphony was invented. Are you saying like the Western people thought up polyphony and you guys were all like
>what a bunch of heretics

I mean, vibrations, frequencies, mathematics, science, etc. all play into it. I'm just curious if there's some kind of scriptural ban against it or something.
>>
>>79692369
It's not that polyphony is heresy, it's just that it's not optimal for conveying what hymns are supposed to convey. We don't have any objection to it outside of Church, but in Church, when singing and listening to a hymn, you should be able to clearly understand and concentrate on what the hymn is saying, something polyphony kind of impairs.
>>
Reminder Orthodoxy is very calm on their outlook on death. It's kinda comforting to me as an ex-nihilist, I don't know how people who don't know about it will react to this.
These are the Skulls of priest whom have died.
>>
>>79691744
From the perspective of something like a recording engineer, that is impressively recorded for six people who happen to be standing around in a church.

A lot of churches I've been in do not have great acoustics if you're just sitting in the pews, even when they spend a lot of money on a PA system.
>>
>>79692788
Not obviously this would not be a big thing in the West, because by the time of the schism, the average parishoner in the West couldn't understand any of the service, the Gospel reading, the hymns, any of it, it was all in Latin. We still continued to translate it because we say understanding and contemplating it to be vital, and still translated Bibles and tried to get people to read them or at least listen to them.
>>
>>79692788
Ah, that makes sense. When it comes to singing, perfect temperament sounds out of this world amazing. You can hear when they lock into perfect intervals and then all of a sudden it sounds so clear.
>>
>>79692902
>Let him be your father who is able and willing to labour with you in bearing the burden of your sins; and your mother—contrition, which can cleanse you from impurity; and your brother—your comrade who toils and fights side by side with you in your striving toward the heights. Acquire an inseparable wife—the remembrance of death. And let your beloved children be the sighs of your heart. Make your body your slave; and your friends, the Holy Powers (Angels) who can help you at the hour of your death, if they become your friends. This is the generation (family) of those who seek the Lord.

-The Ladder of Divine Ascent

>>79692938
It's a cathedral, so it's going to have top notch acoustics.
>>
>>79693443
Cathedrals do tend to have inherently good acoustics (particularly given the large-scale odd shapes for low frequencies that take tens of feet to develop and reflect around), but it's still pretty easy for it to sound like a splattery mess, especially if there isn't a good balance of high frequency absorption.

Whoever set up the mics on that particular recording got a good balance of near and far field. It was fantastic when the conductor raised his hand and you could hear the low guys banging out against the walls.

I guess this is starting to go astray from Christianity proper, but I guess I just get wet and wild over things that sound good. I've been to old-fashioned services in languages I don't understand, and even then there's something about it even if I don't know exactly what's being said.
>>
>>79693947
Oh, by the way, you might be able to understand why our music is so "retrograde" if you look at our art: same principle.
>>
>>79694246
I don't consider it to be retrograde. It's just a different tradition from mine.

I regard your music in the same way as I regard your churches and the way your church attendees keep their yards. Every bit of it is pleasing and inspiring.
