I work in a low tier gutter retail job so I have to see this constantly. Many are there because some have emotional issues, others may have failed school or struggle with the basics of life. The place I work at used to be full time with decent benefits (was a family owned company 4-5 years ago). Then they sold it off to another mega corporation and started cutting hours.... now the average worker there gets maybe 15 hours a week with no benefits. Do you see now? Some of those people working there have been there for almost 20 YEARS because it was once reliable.

My grandpa used to be a baker at Safeway (grocery store) for 30 years and he made decent money up until the 90s when he retired. The payment has stayed around $13 an hour. Decades ago you could get by with some shitty job just fine.
