His security detail told me in private after I had stopped filming that "if I like following the law so much, why don't we call the police and have them decide", which was a hint that the police would take the side of Bill Gates because he is "above the law", although I'm doing nothing wrong by being on public land.

I've been picked up for hitchhiking in towns where city ordinances allow hitchhiking, because it's something that doesn't come up often enough that they know the actual laws surrounding it. The only way to prevent it is to actually go into the police station beforehand, get someone high-ranking to acknowledge that it's legal, then refer them to him when they try to arrest you.
